+141 Abortion should not be illegal. The government should not have a say in a decision a woman makes regarding her own body, and religion should be left out of the argument as the Constitution has stated for over 200 years. amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You are right and wrong. Religion has nothing to do with the argument. But when a woman's decision affects another life, this issue becomes trickier than just "government is restricting my rights." The fact of the matter is that the woman is not only making a decison regarding her body, the decision involves another life as well. It is her body, but it is not her life that she is taking.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I have never heard an argument against abortion that didn't involve religion of some sort.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You are ending a life. If this is a religious argument, please let me know.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Okay, back that up, then. That's not even an argument. Especially since it says you're a Catholic(and proud of it), I don't believe that you don't have a religious argument.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Heres my thing: If you know that it will eventually become a human being when its popped out of the vagina, how can it be anything else when it is growing inside the woman? Why would a change in environment change its life status.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I never said it wasn't life. Animals are life too, but i am more than fine with killing them. They are literally part of the mother. Just like the rest of the cells in her body. Until it can survive on it's own it is essentially a parasite.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, but it is HUMAN life. that was my point, if you know a human baby is what comes out, how can it be anything else when it is inside? At what point (stage in the pregnancy) would you consider it to be "murder" if you were to disect it? Also, what makes you say its a parasite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The definition of a parasite makes me say it is. I am done now. Abortion arguments are stupid. I'm fine with killing fetuses. You aren't. Just because it's human doesn't mean i care at all about it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You are essentialy arguing that sperm that has just been ejaculated during sex is a person. The fact that 2 cells have come together doesn't make it a person.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

true, but it is literally on its way to becoming a person. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe sperm (by itself) is a person. But once those cells come together... That is a future human child. So don't fuck with it. Simple as that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So with that being said, you believe that the morning after pill should be banned as well? The sperm has come into contact with an egg. While it's only been in contact for a few hours, possibly days, it's already too much to prevent it from growing?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, I will stick with what I have said before. The morning after pill should not be sold. The fact that it has started growing already and that, if left alone, will continue to grow into a human, is enough for me.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It is a living human being. Since when has it become okay to end the life of another human?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Since the dawn of Man?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Then why is it illegal to end a human's life outside of the womb?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because they can survive on their own. (not saying that they don't need support still, but it doesn't rely on the body of any other human being to survive) Either way, I'm done. I really don't care what your opinion of it is, and you probably don't care about mine. These arguments are all the same, everytime

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why should the fact that a human relies on something else for life allow it any less of a claim to it?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Rage Quit. hmmm

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not even close. No rage here.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

He's just being wise and picking his battles. You can't win them all, and this argument could go on for all eternity and neither of our opinions are likely to change from it. It's all a back and forth that never ends

by Anonymous 11 years ago

A born child relies on his parents to provide food and healthcare. Is it okay for those parents to murder that child?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Simple. A person controls their own body, PERIOD. In my perspective I don't care if the entire army of North Korea was in a person's womb, it's their body, do whatever the fuck they want. If you intrude on someone's home unwelcome, you get killed. Same deal.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Just because Catholics are pro life doesn't mean that everybody in the pro life movement is catholic don't be stupid....

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Don't be stupid, no one stated that. Maybe you should read before you type

by Anonymous 11 years ago

DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I LIKE CALLING PEOPLE STUPID WHILE BEING STUPID TOO!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Preach, OP... Preach

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The argument is over whether the child's right to live out weighs the mothers right to choose. LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness And no where in the constitution does it say you can't make religious laws. If you actually read it, it says only that congress shall make no law restricting the freedom of religion. There is a difference between the freedom OF religion, and freedom FROM religion (which is not an actual thing)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, but my tax money should not be spent on abortion.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

last time i checked, "one body" didn't have 2 heads, 4 arms, 20 fingers, etc

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Okay concerning religion. Lets leave it out of the argument because really it should have no effect on how an entire country is governed because everyone has a personal belief system and some people don't believe in god at all. My problem with this is that regardless of whether you believe life starts at the zygote stage or at meiosis you can't say having sex in this day and age is going to end in pregnancy. Using that argument makes no sense, unless your saying that every egg and every sperm could possibly form a human and therefore using any birth control is preventing or killing human life which of course is 'evil'. People have casual sex, the horror! But they do and due to this we need birth control and yes that includes the morning after pill, which may be used for any number of reasons most primarily, rape, failure of contraceptives or yes unprotected sex. If you did have sex not using protection though does this qualify you to be a mother? Not only have you risked your own health to STDs, but you're probably not ready for the responsibility to have a child. I doubt the child you are so desperate for to exist would be too pleased with its own existence.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Also I think there should be some kind of law in place so both parents have to consent to the abortion for it to happen. I do realise that women bear the brunt of pregnancy as a woman myself, but I can't see how the woman who is truly only responsible for half of the child (obviously not including its development) can decide to destroy it without the fathers consent. That's just me though probably and obviously I'm not talking about rapists here, they can rot in hell.
