-102 It's annoying when people ask your opinion on the election when you aren't old enough to vote, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, it's only natural other people are going to be curious about yours. I'm not old enough to drink or retire but I still have an opinion on them and wouldn't be annoyed at someone for being asking.

Even though everyone is entitled to an opinion, it doesn't mean that they always have one..

You can just say that then.

Then can't I also say that I find it annoying when people ask me question about things that I don't really have an opinion about.

NOBODY FORM AN OPINION UNTIL YOU TURN 18

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I basically just meant I don't really have much of an opinion because i'm not 18 and so I don't follow politics very closely. I don't want to form an opinion based solely on my parents either, so because by next election I will be able to vote, I am going to start following politics and form an opinion of my own in due time.

What does being under 18 have to do with not following politics closely? Just because you can't vote doesn't mean you can't be informed. (Sure, you can choose not to care about it yet, but that is your choice and has nothing to do with the fact that you are not 18). Also, you //will and likely have// been forming opinions based on your parents if you're not going out there and educating yourself. It won't be easy to separate your views from your parent's 6 months before the next election. It's a gradual process. I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong, but it's something to think about.

Well, I have started already, the next election isn't in 6 months and regardless i wont be 18 in the next 6 months anyway.. Being under 18 is my reason for not following politics closely for this election. I knew my opinion didn't matter and I really didn't have time to go and read articles and watch the debates to form an opinion and I really don't think that it matters because I can't vote for 4 years so I should be able to have formed some sort of opinion by then. Basically I'm stating that I didn't learn because I knew my opinion wouldn't matter yet anyway, also part of this is that most of the time when people ask opinions on Elections if you say one thing they don't like and can't support it extremely well then they think your views are stupid... so it annoys me when I know that all they want to do is show off how much more they know/ that they are better.

Yes, it shouldn't be about showing off, and those who think it should be are immature. Luckily, I never dealt with people who thought my views were stupid if I couldn't support them in enough detail. If it's a time issue or an issue of people being rude to you, I can see your point because then it's not solely an age issue.

I mean, personally, I get upset when someone writes my opinion about the election off. Just because I can't vote yet, doesn't mean I can't form an opinion about it and can't support a candidate.
