+19 The death of Trayvon Martin is not an American tragedy, amirite?

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Just another fight in the street between 2 men that ended with one being killed. No racial motive or hate crime involved whatsoever. The black leaders in this country are really showing their true colors and racism on this issue, and it is extremely demeaning to watch.

It's funny how you say black leaders when people from lots of different races think it's of racial motive...

by Anonymous 10 years ago

And a whole lot don't.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

You only said black people thought it was racism, yet here you acknowledge people of other races also think it was racial motive. Just like how there are black men and women who think it isn't of racial motive, people of other race don't think it is either. I just wanted to point that out.

Millions of people die every year... What makes him as special as to be an American tragedy? He died in one of the most common ways possible.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Well THEY want us to believe that it is because HE was a black boy who had no weapon and the killer racially profiled him, stalked him, and gunned him down in cold blood! And that is simply a bunch of political and racial BUNK!

I think it was simply a misunderstanding. Perhaps the kid was casually walking, and Zimmerman saw him. Being suspicious, he followed Trayvon and Trayvon noticed that. Being the age he is, of course he's gonna go up to Zimmerman and confront him. Probably violently. Thing happened, and bam. One died. But that's just me, so in my eyes, it is probably a tragedy. Just not America's saddest tragedy.

It's not an American tragedy in the sense of the phrase, but I think that this case has really opened up a lot of people's eyes to the injustice here in America. It's kind of a breaking point, where people are finally realizing that the justice system is really an injustice system. Only in America can you kill a dog and go to jail but kill a human being and get off scot-free, no charges at all. I just heard that a football player, I forgot his name, once accidentally shot himself and he went to jail for a year for a gun going off in public. A woman went to jail recently because while she was at the store, her daughter found the gun in the house and shot herself. The woman went to jail for involuntarily man-slaughter. Michael Vick went to jail because 2 dogs were shot on his property when he wasn't even there. He went to jail for 2 years. There's millions of people in prison on less evidence against them than Zimmerman. It's more as a realization for some that there is no justice in America, and everybody is on their last nerves because Trayvon could have been anyone's child. There's been millions of scenarios like this, but everybody has a breaking point.

If you truly believe what you just said, then there should be the SAME outrage and response that blacks are displaying now over and for EVERY killing. You must have missed the whole story. There was NO evidence or case - that was the point. There was no injustice. Zimmerman had the right to defend himself. The injustice is that black leaders are calling for civil rights violations when there is nothing of substance. Zimmerman did NOT go out to racially profile a black teen and murder him for fun. Have you researched the work that Zimmerman was doing with and for black youths? Did you know he took a black girl for his date to his prom? There is a real racist black hater huh?

There was, in fact, lots of evidence. The prosecution just did a horrible job representing it. On the contrary, I've been following the story closely. He didn't murder him for fun, he murdered him because he was losing the fight. Why couldn't have Trayvon stood his ground against Zimmerman? He probably did what just about any one of us would have done if somebody chased us down for no apparent reason. And no, I did not know that, but the court did mention his history of 911 calls. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/03/22/george-zimmerman-s-history-of-911-calls-a-complete-log.html

OK, since you brought it up, what was THE EVIDENCE that should have made Zimmerman guilty? Remember only one credible witness (the first cop) and one crazy girlfriend discussing the phone call.

Well, if Zimmerman shot Trayvon the way he said he shot him, there would have been some blood on his clothing. He had none of Trayvon's DNA whatsoever. George Zimmerman said that Trayvon punched his nose then covered it with his hand. Well, if that's so then how come Trayvon didn't have Zimmerman's DNA on his hand and fingernails? And, how did he yell for help if Trayvon was covering his nose and mouth? It would have been muffled. None of Trayvon's DNA was found on the gun that was supposedly pressed against him. The injuries on Zimmerman's head were not that serious. If his head was slammed into the ground multiple times, he would have fainted or have had a concussion. It was said that whoever was on top looked like he was doing an mma move. George Zimmerman was trained in mma, and even though the teacher said that Zimmerman couldn't really fight good, he had to have picked up some moves after being there for years. And, let's just say it was self-defense. Well, let's not forget who pursued whom after being told NOT to. All of this could have been avoided if Zimmerman had listened to instructions. He still shot and killed an unarmed teenager. He should have been convicted of man-slaughter. And how do you figure that his friend was crazy? Because she couldn't speak proper English and because she got irritated at Don West asking the same questions over and over? She had just spoken to him before he died, I think that can shake anyone up. She was the last to speak to him. I just want to know what made you make the assumption that she was crazy.

You have presented lots of hypothetical questions - which is exactly what everyone who is mad is doing. Trials are tried on FACTS and EVIDENCE. You can ask questions all day long. But all we had was a tape with a scream (nobody will ever KNOW whose scream), a fight (the cop who testified saw Treyvon on top of Zimmerman beating him up and the injuries are consistent with that description), and a gunshot. That is it. Zimmerman's story was consistent with what little "evidence" there was. And in a jury trial, if a case can not be proven "beyond a reasonable doubt," then they must reach a not guilty verdict - which they did. These kinds of killings occur every single day, and this is the weakest one to make a "to do" about or over. Whites kill blacks, blacks kill whites, and blacks kill blacks. Over 70 people were shot in Chicago over the 4th of July weekend. Where is the outcry? Why no racial protests? Why no Eric Holder or Obama calling for justice? It is total hypocrisy to elevate this case to the level it has risen to. About the girl........only because she changed her story several times.. I generally call that "crazy." If anyone profiled, it was Treyvon by saying a "creepy ass cracker" was watching him. Guess that is perfectly ok with the black community.

Thank you. The trial was fair. I hate how people are sickened by this outcome, disgusted by 'racial intolerance', because the case was handled correctly.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

So the prosecution fucks up, can't make their case, and it's the jury's fault for making the wrong decision based on what went on in the courtroom?

by Anonymous 10 years ago

When did I say it was the jury's fault?

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Not you.
