A teacher should get paid more than both.

I don't necessarily think a teacher should get paid more than someone in the military, but they definitely deserve more that what they do get paid.

You can't just go and sign up and get in in the Military in the US..There are things, mentally and physically, that you have to qualify for before they can accept you. I just think athletes are paid too much for what they do. They don't deserve all the money they get.

And besides sports is just a means of entertainment. The military, its soldiers, are protecting your freedom. That's more important.

That's not how it works. Pay isn't always about how hard the job is but rather the demand for the employee. Typical soldier: Easy to replace and easy to train. It's also relatively easy for the army to recruit soldiers. In other words, people are willing to join the army for the current pay and benefits and so the army is going to continue providing that rate. Keep in mind this is the typical soldier... Special Ops and those who earn higher ranks //do// get paid more. Professional athlete: Irreplaceable. I'm not into sports but nobody can replace Tiger Woods. People like him and they're willing to pay money to sponsor him. The same applies to movie stars. There isn't a single person on Earth who can provide the same performance as Tom Hanks and therefore, producers are willing to pay him tons of money to have him in movies. None of this means that being a soldier is worthless but that if soldiers want better pay, then less people will need to join the army. Less people creates a shortage of soldiers. Shortage of soldiers means the government will be willing to pay them more.

Good point. I didn't think of it that way. I still think atletes get paid too much though.

Athletes and movie stars get paid a lot because people pay for entertainment. Sure, soldiers should be paid more, but who's going to pay for that?

Pretty much what I said except simplified. Actor possesses great acting skills that the majority of people happen to like. Because of this, producers are willing to pay these actors top dollar to be in their movies because they know having the actor will increase the revenue they make from the movie. So yes, they get paid a lot because they entertain but they're paid for directly by the producers. Soldiers on the other hand are paid for by the government which obtains its money from tax dollars. And it gets a little more complicated than that, but for the most part, they're paid little because it's relatively easy to recruit and train a new soldier. It's like a factory process. A group of civilians go into boot camp and come out as soldiers. As long as raw material (a civilian willing to be trained) is easily available for the price the government is paying, then the price will stay the same.

I know what you're saying, and that's the sad part, people SHOULD want to pay for the military.

Why should people want to pay more for the military?
