+16 The US Mint ought to stop making pennies, nickels and quarters, and only make dimes and half-dollars. We should ditch cents (1/100th of a dollar) and switch to "decs" (1/10th of a dollar), so there's only one digit beyond the decimal point. We'll save a fortune in ink!!! Amirite?

The mint should keep the penny so you can pay exact change.

That's because we've made the arbitrary choice to divide up the dollar by 100, and set that as the smallest increment. Since a minute of minimum wage labor is more than a dime, why not switch to a system that divides the dollar into ten? With only one digit to the right of the decimal point, exact change could be made with dimes and half-dollars.
