Yes they are beautiful, but everyone I've known who has lived in one complained about how hard it is to cool in the summer and heat in the winter - unless megabucks have been spent on restoring it so that it's more efficient.

With 10' ceilings summers aren't so bad except on the second floor.
Winters can get pretty expensive and yes, they are costly, but oh so beautiful.

I recognise that house. It's in Ithaca, N.Y. and was actually used in the sitcom "The Adams Family." Native Ithacan here.
