+27 Our cultures //heavily// favor extroversion such that being introverted is a type of handicap, amirite?

I think the biggest difference between the two groups are that introverts tend to do their thinking silently. Extroverts, on the other hand, think out load.

Which is massively more useful in the structure we've set up. Thinking internally is rarely something that is appreciated, and basically never encouraged.

Thinking outloud opens up the opportunity to gain perspective from another; something you may have not considered otherwise. Both are important.

Could be, but **many** who do or have or have considered themselves introverts, have made a very big noise in the world. I don't think being introverted has much to do with being "personable".

Being outgoing is often associated with being personable

Okay, then. Personally, I know that people can be both outgoing and personable, while still being introverted.

As with most things, it's a spectrum. So sure, there are people that are introverted but exhibit more qualities associated with extroversion than other introverts. So, the farther you get towards 100% introvert, the more obvious and present the handicap becomes.

Pretty much... I've encountered very few extroverts who fully understand how mentally taxing it is for an introvert to attempt to hold a conversation about nothing.

Obama is an introvert that became president.

Introverted people are also geeks and I thought geeks were still in.

I always hate discussions about introverts and extroverts. There's always the implication from introverts that they hold superior intelligence because they don't like to party or whatever. I'll get to that later. But except for an extreme minority of people, nobody is completely introverted or extroverted. Most people are in the middle and lean just a bit towards one side or the other. I think the ability to communicate with others and the patience to do so for long periods of time is in itself a form of intellegence. Communication and human interaction alone is necessary for survival. The better you are at doing it, at getting your point across and at obtaining what you need, the more intelligent you are. So while extroverts might seem like a bunch of loud mouthed dullards, I think they make up for it with their strong social skills.

They think every little thing is a handicap. That is why the schools eat up all the tax money - just so all these weirdo ailment kids get taken care of. Not fair to the normal kids at all.

Yeah, a lot of items seem to be about networking today, and whom knows whom, and reaching out to others, etc.
