you don't have to be the same gender as someone to know if they're insecure...? if i suddenly became a man i wouldn't instantly be more self conscious

you can't generalize like that. i know these guys that are so insecure but i also know girls that are just as bad. it completely has to do with the person and not the gender.

well if you link insecurities to something you can clearly study, like eating disorders, it's obvious that girls are more insecure

I think boys are more insecure simply because of the fact that they have to think about relationships, how to keep it working, if the other person is the "one", and the fact it takes a lot of courage to propose. Also, guys are sometimes shy around girls they like and the ones that aren't have more confidence in themselves.
