+428 Depression is a physical condition caused by low serotonin levels in the brain. Often triggered by emotional trauma or hormones. It is not something you can 'just get over' and it is not something that is 'just in your head' it is a real disease that needs to be acknowledged as more than teenage drama. amirite?

This excludes teenage anxiety. Whiny teenagers crying because their boyfriend of a week has broken up with them, and they think they 'just can't do it any more' need a reality check. This post relates to people who have had strong emotional trauma, or even those with an imbalance of hormones causing the brain to slow down, or even stop creating serotonin (the chemical which create euphoria) who do not get recognition as strong, capable human beings.

Your talking about clinical depression, you can't use a blanket statement and say that all depression is phyisical some is just emotional and you can get over it.

Actually depression is only correlated with abnormal neurotransmitter levels. Correlation is not the same as causation. Just saying.
