`why is this on the homepage?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why is the sky blue? Why is the black power ranger black? The world may never know.

I think they're not inherently anything. We're just blank slates when we're born in my opinion, subject to becoming either good or bad depending on how society influences us.

Well my cousin seems to always be happy and nice constantly, even though her mother yells at her and is actually quite mean to her, so she's staying happy and nice despite a lot of conflicting outside influence...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well you have to take into account all of the factors influencing her. Like maybe most of the other people in her life are supportive of her, which keeps her positive. Who knows. To me, it just seems inaccurate to conclude that because one person is mean to your cousin and she's not a horrible person because of it, people are inherently good. You're not taking everything and everyone into consideration with that claim.

That's true, and a good point, but she lives with her mother, and as far as I can tell, sees her mother more often than anyone else combined. Of course, I could be wrong. But I only see her once every 2 months or so, and my grandparents, who love her and would see her every day if they could, only see her about once every 2 weeks, because her mother won't let them see her more than that... Though I'd agree that saying (all) people are inherently good is a bit broad a statement, I would think that most of them are...

People are good until proven otherwise.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People are inherently attracted to me... and I don't blame them.

Nature vs nurture

Lord of the Flies begs to differ.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Damn, beat me to it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, I don't know what 'inherently' means. Is it like 'usually'? Or 'most of the time', or 'by default'? :/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It means they're born that way. It's a part of their nature.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh right, thank you. In which case, I'd agree that some people are and some aren't, but I'd say most are...

Copying from facebook and forgetting to format it, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How isn't the OP in amirite format?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

People aren't inherently good or bad. We're a mixture of the two. The world isn't black and white.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

the real question is, why is this under music?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

For the fun of it? :D

by Anonymous 13 years ago

go read LORD OF THE FLIES

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I tried to read that once. I got insanely bored after 2 pages. And I'm sure if would have been good if I could have tolerated it longer, but my excuse is that it was the school's copy, and I had just picked it up randomly, so I couldn't really read it all, anyway... :P

or pretty much every other work of english literature... (Heart of Darkness (LOVE!) A Clockwork Orange, etc)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This sounds like my termpaper, but instead of inherently good, it's inherently not a white supremacist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

What's "good"? What's "bad"? Only society's interpretation of actions. Morals are artificial, there is no right or wrong.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No one is born bad. No one is born planning on killing someone, or born as a racist, or prejudiced. Its society that makes thrm that way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

by our standards, all living beings are inherently bad, but biologically it's just life.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But society corrupts. Or so says John Locke.
