+380 Why is "white" considered a race? I mean, asians come from Asia. Africans come from Africa. There's no such thing called Whiteotopia and there's nobody from Whiteland, amirite?

I would make the argument that I'm from Whitefield but i'm not white....

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"White" isn't a race, just as "black" isn't. It's Caucasian. It comes from people found in the Caucasus region.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, "black" is a synonym for african american. "white" on the other hand, basically means anyone whose light-skinned and whose race isn't immediately noticeable

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"Black is a synonym for african american"? Even if the guy lives in Europe?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

"African American" is the politically correct term. For some reason, people are touchy on that subject. But you never hear "Italian American" or "Polish American". We're just white.

Does anyone here know anything at all about race? I mean, really? Or am the only person of color in this piece? It's very white to say "race doesn't matter" or "we're all different colors but we're still just people!" when we exist in a society that literally caters to white people. I know race can be a really difficult concept to grasp when you are white, but talk to folks of color and see how our experiences are way different than yours.

The Caucasus Mountain Region is in Eastern Europe, most "white people" are not from Eastern Europe. Also the modern US caters to perceived minorities a lot more than white people. The US gov has programs to benefit integrated companies, that were created to give minorities a fair chance in the work place. Over time, this became less necessary, but did not go away, so rather than giving a company a reason to hire minorities, it gives them a reason not to hire white people. If a minority individual is up against a white person for a job, that is equally qualified as them (or just slightly more so) the minority individual will almost always get the job.

In my opinion it's not a big deal, but as humans we have the need to categorize everything.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

there's no such thing as hispanic city either.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ya but hispanic ppl are from spain.... hispanic.... spanish.... ya i guess those words aren't that similar. but i think what the OP means is that why is it the color of someone's skin is what their race is? hispanic isn't a color.

ya, this is such a stupid post, fucksake you are so amatuer im about to have a christian bale rant because of this

The comments on hur make me lul

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's not white, it's Caucasian. It's not black, it's African, whether it be African American or African European.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Personally, I don't see the big deal about saying black or white or anything. It's a description. Skin color doesn't mean anything. However, other people are so touchy and freak out if someone says "See that black girl over there?" or "See that white girl over there?"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

so very true ...but know matter what the world will never change how they say things

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This is the stupidest comment I've ever seen

Whites are people of european descent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's been almost a 800 years since my "white" family has been from the continent of Europe (I actually have my lineage traced that far [to the 10th century AD actually] I'm not just guessing). You might as well say that humans, no matter where they're from, are from African descent, it's as pointless of a statement.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm African, seeing as I live in South Africa. I'm white, though. ("Oh my God! There are white people in Africa?! Do you ride elephants to school? Do you even *have* schools?! Did you make those skinnies from snakeskin?" God.

That's because "Asian" and "African" are not races, they are ethnicities. Reading between the lines and carefully thinking about the OP's choice of words, it seems they intrinsically believe that all black people are from Africa and that all people in Africa are black, and that in their head Asian = east Asian.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, you read wrong. i am african (both my parents were born and raised in nigeria), and i know that there are white africans, and i know that indians and arabs are asian. moreover, my terminology is perfectly fine, because i'm talking about biological descent, not cultural practices (as in, blacks in america generally don't practice african traditions, but their biological line traces back to africa). and, if i had said "white ethinicity," than i would be referring to a "white" cultural heritage. which i'm not. so there.
