+1,175 Most teenagers nowadays need to become more cultured. Try reading literature without sparkly vampires, or listening to music that's not about drugs or sex, amirite?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

the person who disagreed probably is a fan of twilight lol

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Not at all. It's hypocritical to say something like this because if the OP were to have someone tell them "the music you like sucks, change it NOW LOLOL!" they'd be mad.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

music thats not about sex and drugs... Ramstien anyone?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

First off, since when was Twilight a poorly written book? Sure, the vampires sparkle in the sun, but so what? That's not what the whole book is about. There's a plot and many different twists, and is very well written. Secondly, music about drug and sex is mostly gangster rap, and is listened to by "ghetto" people. Sure, some songs have sex and drug references, but what songs don't? Hell, half the music from the 70's was about making love and marijuana. You'd actually be surprised if you would stop being ignorant towards todays generation.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

i completely agree with you.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Please tell me the plot of Twilight. I've read the book and can find no plot what so ever. Anywho, OP is talking about the majority of kids. More than half of the girls at my middle school are in love with Twilight. The guys don't even LIKE to read. And the music varies. Some like rock, some like rap, etc. etc. Oh, and am I the only one who sees on most people Myspaces that under "Books" they have "I hate reading!" or "Who reads anymore?" Bugs the crap out of me.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Saying that more than half of the girls in your middle school is generalizing like the OP did. It's a rare person that asks everybody's opinion on a book. It probably seems this way because the girls who like Twilight like to express their opinions to get noticed.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

i read Twilight, and i must say, the whole book is about how important having a BF is. and y would u wanna keep a sparkly, stalker, 108 yr old vamp anyway?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

That is wrong message to send to impressionable teenage girls. My life is my boyfriend. In the latest movie I hear she does life endangering stunts so her boyfriend will come back to her. How ridiculous is that? I would never let my preteen read or watch Twilight.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

"A modern, visual, and visceral Romeo and Juliet story of the ultimate forbidden love affair - between vampire and mortal." -Summit Entertainment people should stop criticizing books. what if i said '(insert your favorite book title here) is a stupid book' how would that make you feel?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Okay. I have seen pages of grammatical errors in the first book alone. The prose is boring. Almost nothing really happens for hundreds of pages. That is BAD. WRITING. The plot reminds me of something that came out of my ass in middle school. Bella is a self-insert of Smeyer, Edward is so f**king perfect it HURTS. How on EARTH is this a GOOD book?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Also: It's okay for people to enjoy not-so-good books. I've enjoyed worse-written books. I sorta even like Twilight when reading it (usually it's not my genre preference anyway.) I have a problem with how popular Twilight has become.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

umm. why do you have a problem with how popular its become?? who honestly cares? some people actually like that genre and maybe they like it.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

You DO realize that, as famous and well-written as Romeo & Juliet is, it was ultimately Shakespeare poking fun at the sordid, flimsy romances between naive teenagers, right? So comparing your beloved Twilight to Romeo & Juliet really says nothing for its case. I've read the books, all of them, and seen the movies. It's bad writing and bad acting. End of story, kiddos.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

And perhaps people should stop making fun of Twilight and look at the fact that it got so many new people to stop and pick up a book for once.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I agree with Mike.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Does anyone realize that I'm a teenager too? I'm not saying that Twilight is bad, I actually own the whole series. Just try expanding your horizons a bit, okay?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Expand my horizons? What? You think that Twilight is the only thing Twilight fans read? I just finished Angels & Demons, before that was The Greatest Knight, before that The Forgotten Legion, and before that was Moby Dick. Thanks.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

like Mike said, twilight fans dont only read the twilight series.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

thats what all music is. it gets annoying. im a teenager too though, and we dont just read the books for the "sparkly vampires". did you ever stop and think that maybe some teens actually like fantasy-romance stuff like that? i own the whole series too and i like them for the STORY. not the "SPARKLY VAMPIRES."

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Im sorry but since the kick out the jams by mc5 about have the good music has been about drugs or sex. i.e. jimi hendrix, led zeppelin

by Anonymous 14 years ago

o but i agree about the books

by Anonymous 14 years ago

This is much too general. I don't like twilight. But music is music and music is an inspiration. Whether it has drugs or sex in it? I don't really care, it's the feeling music gives you that makes you want to listen to it.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

actually thats a big part of most cultures now adays, it originated in america namely, therefor it is a big part of american culture, if you were cultured youd know that bud

by Anonymous 14 years ago

hey, ya, lynard skynard wrote quite a few songs about drugs man, lynard skynard is good

by Anonymous 14 years ago

twilight is very plain, and make sme want to kill myself. While metal is the shit and all should listen to it. Instead of rap, or hip hop, or pop, or country.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

and metal isnt all that great. classic rock is amazing and what has either helped create almost all the music that you hear today

by Anonymous 14 years ago

if ind it funny that parents dont want kids to be exposed to sex and drugs unless its health class

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Drugs and sex make awesome topics for songs. Fuck, anything makes an awesome topic for a song if the artist is good.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Hm, I very much disagree with Twilight being a good book. And, there's no reason for anyone to argue about what she or I or anyone else has posted. It's all our own opinion. So, just calm the fuck down. Some people like Twilight, sans Mike, Rawr, and Tom. And others, sans myself, amirite, and this OP, don't. BUT, I don't agree with the music statement. You should be able to listen to whatever you want, be it rap, hip hop, pop, or heavy metal. You listen to it, cos it makes YOU feel good. Not, please OTHER people.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

But old music is about sex and drugs (gotta love the doors) more than new music, modern music is about gang violence. Get your stereotypes right.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

This is totally right! I feel so alone at school because I love the literally classics (Huckleberry Finn, The Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men, Little Women, etc.) I wish somebody at my school would give those a chance. My school is full of Twilight lovers.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

that sounds horrible...

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Literally? LOL I heart typos.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

i agree with OP. there are plenty of teenagers now who either dont read at all.. or tween fangirls who have only read twilight because "OMG RPattz is soooo hawt!!" Sure there are some teens who read cultured books, but maybe not enough. but as for music.. its very hard to find modern music that doesnt have anything to do with sex or drugs.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I'm a teenager, and I read all of the Twilight books, don't get me wrong, I like them, but they also opened me up to other types of books. Me and my friends read The Darren Shan Saga (Its great by the way.) I'm all for reading all types of books. Up in my room my book shelf holds all different books, I have Robin Hood, Daughters of the Moon, Vampire Diaries, and Percy Jackson to name a few. I also love a bunch of music. I've been listening to the song Mad World, yesterday I was repeatedly playing Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt, the day before that I was singing alone to Second Hand Serenade. So, basically saying is that just because you like Twilight or songs about drugs, doesn't mean you can't like other things.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Please! Most teenagers hate twilight. and our songs aren't just about drugs and sex, they're about what everybody is going through. Lastly, just because you have a different taste than a teenager would doesn't mean you have better taste!

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Did you ever think to consider who raised us?

by Anonymous 14 years ago

So, as a 15-year old female, I feel like my friends and I are stereotyped quite a lot. While all of us did read Twilight, and we did enjoy it, it was, as someone else said, for the story, not the creepy sparkly vampire stuff. I also recently read The Good Earth, A Tale of Two Cities, and some other great classics. I really enjoyed all of them. It's just the minority of teens that enjoys listening to drug & sex music that gets more attention than the rest of us, so they're responsible for the stereotype.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

*ehem* I would like to point out, that everyone HERE is being hypocritical. You are all preaching about out the OP should accept the fact that you like what you like, while totally blowing his/her opinion out of proportion and taking it as a personal accusation. If you like to read about vampires who fall in love with humans, go for it. As for music, there is PLENTY of great music that isn't about sex or drugs, I implore you to turn off the radio and find some bands who aren't mainstream. And that, is where it lies. All of this is "mainstream". Twilight is undoubtedly very popular, thus, it is only logical to use "Teenager" as a generalization. So next time, before throwing your toys to the ground and having a fit, open up your own closed mind. You are on a site that is for *fun* not about freaking out on a person who, apparently, has sufficient support in their opinion. Also...Harry Potter > Twilight. AVADA KEDAVRA!

by Anonymous 14 years ago

i have to agree that people that read twilight books and consider them classy and quality are a little trashy... but just because music is about sex and drugs doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. I listen to lots of Black Keys and garage rock and every now and then some loud boisterous inappropriate music is just what I want to hear.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

Oh God. OP is right and wrong. OP is right because it's true that a lot of teenagers don't want to read unless it's a generic teen romance. Also, I go through the halls of my school hearing people blast any genre song about sex/drugs/both. However, OP is wrong because Twilight opens up people to a different kind of series. Hell, I used to be obsessed with Twilight until my sister gave me her copy of Pride and Prejudice. Loved it. As for music, a lot of songs do contain sex or drugs. Kind of hard to find a song that doesn't have it in there and it still the kind of music you like. tl;dr - OP needs to not be a 50 year old parent.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I agree with you, but it can be argued that, that is our culture. Just something to think about.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

P.S. as sad as that may be.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

the part i hate is that our generation will be the generation of "the sparkly vampire lovers", or the generation of the jonas brothers and rap.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I like country and the hunger games. 13 year old girl. No, you don't have to dislike whatever you like, just look at everything, and don't be close minded.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

I listen to music that isn't about sex or drugs.

by Anonymous 14 years ago

UNDERGROUND MUSIC TILL DEATH MUTHAFUCKAS! my shit is so underground i doubt any of you guys heard of my tunes, i belong to a modern counter-culture, and its bigger than you think...whoop whoop

by Anonymous 14 years ago

and you all forget that theres waaaaaaay better vampire shit than twilight. Anne Rice is my biotch, and half of you dont have the capacity to read her stuff

by Anonymous 14 years ago

The great thing about stuff like music and books and things of the sort is that they are forms of art. They are open to interpretation and opinions. What what this person sees as "not cultured enough" could easily become a great work of tomorrow, and maybe tomorrow someone will say the same thing but encourage people to read twilight and listen to this music. Let people read and listen to what they want. What do you care?
