+127 Americans actually arent educated about any other country but their own. Actually, their not even educated about their own, either, amirite?

When your country is the superpower you don't give a shit about any other country. Don't be jealous you live in some country that can't do shit during a war without asking for our help.

*they're *aren't Your intelligence lacks any response.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You mean, "your response lacks any intelligence". What a sad thing to fail. He is still right though, and you are entirely wrong. Most Americans learn a great deal about their own country, some don't due to their sheer stupidity, but you will find that in any country. People in other, smaller, and less important countries, learn about America, and American politics, because they are so intertwined in America in almost every way. Banking, imports, exports, military goods, military protection, local military bases, and so on, and so on. The actions of most individual foreign countries (aside from military matters) make little difference to us. Most Americans learn bits and pieces about a lot of foreign counties, but never go in depth with any of them. If something happens in a small country we don't know about, we all scramble to learn about it, as it becomes necessary.

No, the way the person said it before is correct. 'Your intelligence lacks response' just means that you are so ignorant that you don't deserve a response.

You must understand, America is quite large, and powerful in economical and military terms. American politics are global politics. With only a few obvious exceptions, the politics of most foreign countries are the equivalent of local politics. The EU is similar to the US in some ways, each member state's President being like a state Governor in the US. Even then the EU is not as united as the US, each member state thinks of itself as a separate state, not just a part of the EU. In the US, all of the states are entirely united, under one president, one federal government, which (whether it should or not) has the power to overrule member states. in the EU militaries are united by treaty, and treaties are easily broken, as per necessity. The actions of the EU make no real difference, the member states fight to much between themselves, there is no single guiding force.

The US is as powerful as it is largely because of it's military power. This is something the EU can't match, no person has the authority to command every soldier in all of Europe. They might command allied troops, but as I said, alliances can be broken. They are only kept while necessary. If one nation falls to another, who cares? But if only the whole can fall, the people will stand together. You focus too much on the problems in the US, and not on what makes your own country weak. We will work on our government, and you work on yours. That is, if you can.

and p.s 'they're' means 'they are', so im pretty sure i used the right terminology... fuckin idiot must be an American!!

This is a sad post. Makes me sad that people who would write this exist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

This post is really offensive. I'm an American and I've travelled throughout the world AND America and know quite a bit about other countries. And judging by your grammar, I'm confident that I can make the assumption that I've been educated better than you. I'm sure there are SOME Americans that know nothing about the world or their own country, but there's people in England, Canada, Australia etc. that know nothing about their own country or any other for that matter. Don't stereotype Americans. There's uneducated people from every country.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe when China becomes the next superpower, Americans will start learning about them. But then, i don't think being a superpower has anything to do with it. I am an Australian and the most i have learned about other countries is a year 5 project i did on Scandanavia.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow this is dumb. All American's know about American history, you learn it every fricken year. And actually we do learn about other countries history and everything like that too. So quit complaining.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, we do learn about American history; however, I think that the OP is trying to say that we as a country are only concerned about ourselves. Also, most people are only forced to learn about American history; there are not many people who actually try to learn more than what they are taught. It's wrong to assume that all Americans know about American history because most people know basic facts that make up about 15% of true American history. In a nutshell, I think that the OP is trying to say that we are ignorant because we don't invest time into trying to be involved with the culture and issues of other countries. Also, you shouldn't have an apostrophe in "Americans", "fricken" isn't a word, "countries" should have an apostrophe after the "s", and you have many errors in sentence structure. That's OK, though. You're an American; you know everything there is to know, so you must be right.

I am ap euro right now and I can tell you about almost every little battle and spit back facts about almost every important Europe since the 1400s also last year in global we learned about the African kingdoms and chineese dynasties also we take many years of American history I am sure we know much more than students from other countries Sorry if there are typos I am not used to typing on the iPod keyboard

i honestly dont understand where this stereotype of americans being stupid came from. I was born in the states and moved to england when i was 7, and tbh i learned more about american history in the two years i was there than i did about british history in 8 years of schooling.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*In the two years i was in school there

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Americans often don't know where they were wrong in history, and only look at the good side of things.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most people don't give a shit about other countries. I am a proud American, but I still pay attention while learning about other cultures. However, this post is correct. I don't learn as much as I should, but no one can honestly tell anyone, "Yes, I am up-to-date on all of the world news." There are over 150 countries. That's a lot of news.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It depends on which Americans you talk too. I myself know a ton of American histories along with the general histories of many other countries. But I don't dent that there are many apathetic and ignorant people in my country.
