+209 If God doesn't exsist, then humans are just pointless masses of cells that have no purpose, and emotions are just chemicle reactions that don't mean anything, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I love the person who posted this. Finally, someone to put an end to the retards who keep babbling about evolution.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

just because it's nicer/comforting to think we have a purpose and that there is a god doesn't mean it's true

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Exactly. It's stupid to decide what you think it's true or not based on what you would rather be true or not. I'm not saying believing in a god is stupid, but believing in a god because life will be easier that way is. IMO, it us us who give meaning to our lives, or maybe we choose to live without a meaning, other than to enjoy life.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And just because you want to believe in the THEORY of evolution doesn't make it true either. It's just a theory.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's also more comforting to believe there isn't a hell, but that doesn't mean that's true.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's really not the best way to get your argument across. I'm not trying to be rude, but if you're going to argue against evolution with God, please be nice and smart and civil about it, because you are a reflection of everyone in the world who believes in God.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Chemical*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

and what if god does exist. what purpose do you have? to me, obsessing over making someone who you have never met happy is not much of a purpose at all. restraining yourself hoping to get to a place that doesn't even necessarily exist.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But to those of us who are devout followers, then we meet him everywhere, as he is with us where ever we go...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If God doesn't exist then who cares? Christians will end up in the exact same place as everyone else so it doesn't matter what they believe or what anybody does. But if God does exist, then those who don't believe in Him are all screwed.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

As Albert Camus said "I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is."

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I /hate/ when people use that argument. Don't get me wrong -- there are certain things about religion I respect, so I'm not snapping just because I'm a non-believer. But I see that argument to be incredibly cowardly. It's like saying 'Oh, I believe in God 'cause I don't want to be screwed in the afterlife.' To me, that takes away everything I respect about religious followers and dumps it down the toilet. But that's just me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Im understand what you're saying, except he is saying the he believes in God because it gives his life meaning. And if doubting God automatically means that you have sinned and will be sent to hell or whatever someone believes, well, then we're all screwed

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, that's fine if someone believes in God because it gives their life meaning; I can respect that. What I don't respect is if they only believe in God because they don't want to be screwed in the 'afterlife'. I'd rather be screwed for standing by my personal doubt in God's existence than be a coward who pretended to believe something out of fear.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yea but i still understand and respect it if people say that they believe there might me a god even if they don't worship them

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's not what I'm arguing against at all...I'm saying I don't respect if people believe in God out of /fear/.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh, okay. It sounded like you were referring to people a mentioned in my other comment, you're correct, they are annoying. It's even /more/ annoying when a religion is based off of it

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's not why I believe in God. I believe in God because nothing else makes sense to me. I am a Christian because I have studied it and truly believe there is a God, not just because I am afraid. If you only believe in God out of fear, you really don't believe in Him at all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

All right. That's great. Like I said, I don't have any problem with someone who believes in God out of faith.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I couldn't agree with you more.. To me it's like saying "I'm doing this out of fear not choice" Everyone has a right to their belief, but shouldn't that belief be based on choice and happiness not fear and uncertainty.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I apolgize for the spelling fail, thanks for correcting it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're welcome.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

oh and also, emotions arent purposeful or not depending on if there is a god or not. they are what you feel. God does not need to exist for that to be important. where did u pull that assumption from? your ass? probably.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Someones pissy^^^

by Anonymous 13 years ago

wow . ive never thought of it that way ? but then again , and this is just my opinion so please people, dont flip out. i believe that living your whole life to revolve around pleasing someone you think is a higher power than you isn't a great life. i'm not saying there is no god, because maybe there is. but to think that if theres no one up there to please than we're useless, that's kind of wow .

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Maybe, but I don't really feel like I'm just spending my life trying not to screw up to please God. I think that it's very liberating, and I don't think I'm wasting my life. If there somehow wasn't a God, I might have regretted in believing in Him, but I wouldn't have felt like my life was terrible or anything.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think that the poster was trying to get at something kind of like what I believe, which is that Gid create us out of love and to think that something as complex as humans were created randomly is a bit strange. Also if you study religion enough, you'll find out that saying something likefaith "is just about pleasing God" is compeltly wrong. Dumbasses.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

that about sums it up. ps, please use the reply button. button is a nice word.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We are all "God".

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Great way to quote the Satanic belief.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

moron

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Cells are pointless, they are round

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Life and existence are only meaningless for you if you decide they are.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So is God just a illusion that people use to give meaning to their lives? I'm a Christian who is struggling with doubt. The way I see it, we can't prove that God exists or doesn't exist. (Try and I can guarantee you cannot "prove" it). What we want to believe does not change what is truth. That is what makes faith so hard: how can I fully invest into ideas that I am uncertain of? Especially when they impact how I view the fate of other humans in heaven or hell? All this being said, a life without God would have purpose if you had the attitude of simply living for what is meaningful to you. The problem I have with investing into that side is the same as above....... what if I'm wrong?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Also, if you spend your life believing and you are wrong, then you've wasted your life. If you spend your life NOT believing, then you will waste your eternity.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But is faith as a "safety net" really a good approach?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Personally, I wouldn't call it a safety net. I do believe in a God 100%, but it's another reason to have faith. People don't walk across a tightrope JUST because there's a safety net below.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Terrible logic. Humans have created thousands of different Gods throughout history. Suppose you spend your life worshiping the wrong God? Then you will have also wasted eternity. If there is an afterlife, choosing one of the thousands of Gods doesn't guarantee you anything.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Although god cannot be proven, there is also no way to prove that He doesn't exist. I know this cuz I've done years of researching this. I was brought up in an ultra-orthodox jewish family. If you know anything about ultra-orthodox jews you'll understand why I was so desperate to find another truth. I couldn't. But, in the end, when I decided to rejoin my parents way of life, it had nothing to do with the fact that I couldn't find anything that made more sense. It sounds nicer to say that was why but really it was just because my life had stopped working. Religion is supposed to be a guide on how to live your life. If it feels restrictive, you're doing it wrong.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree that religion can give purpose and joy into life. I just wish I could know if that faith is truth or delusion.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I disagree; I think you can either prove OR disprove that God doesn't exist, but when it comes down to it, who is going to legitimately change your mind? It doesn't seem worth arguing about.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Personally, I think that religion is a nice thought. It gives people the hope and willpower to persevere through adversity, and it's true that religious or spiritual people live longer on average, but the concept of religion doesn't seem logical to me. I wish I were religious, but I can't force myself to follow something I don't believe in. Maybe humanity is pointless, and emotions are just chemical reactions. But people don't want to think of themselves as useless, so they turn to religion to give them a purpose. And if we are just blobs of cells, so what? You can give your life purpose if you choose to do something purposeful.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So what if we are just pointless masses of cells? What if there isn't a God, but still a purpose in this life and for these bodies? Maybe we just don't know it yet. But if there is no purpose, there's no sense in bitching about it on the Internet. :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

OP isn't "bitching" s/he is starting a discussion....

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Heh, I know. I was referring to the mass of people who /do/ bitch about it...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh alright

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or our purpose could be to better life for all the rest of us, and everything else on this planet. To live, and to love. To experience the world. No god required.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Wait, I thought that God existed because leaves stay on trees? Did anyone but me see that post?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have seen some comments that claim if you're a Christian its restricting- I don't think this is true as many 'restrictions' can turn out to be good things like trying not to lie or steal. Also, why did the conversation immediatly go towards Christianity?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

God should exist so you can learn to spell better

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is another one of those arguments that can't be proven right or wrong. It's an opinion thing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

...Your point being?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The cells of our body do have a purpose, depending on what organ they comprise. And emotions do mean something, as they help guide us through our lives. And our purpose in life? As animals, our purpose may be to the continue our species, but as humans, we can live for any meaning we want. If there is an afterlife, I then have to ask, what's the meaning of life *then*? What is the point for living in eternity for heaven? What's the meaning of that? I'd rather have a short, meaningless life on Earth that ends when I die than an eternal meaningless life in Heaven. That being said, my life will never be meaningless because even though I don't believe in an afterlife, I'll always be able to live for something, whether that' s helping other people or raising kids or frankly just enjoying my time here.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I agree that you do not need religion to have a life that means something. I mean, curing cancer and saving millions has got to mean something, right? As far as living a meaningless life in heaven for eternity, to me, heaven is living in perfect paradise for eternity (as it is for followers of all other religions, I think). Heaven is, for lack of a better word, a reward for living a good life. And rewards are definitely not meaningless.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Religion was created to make people feel better. It is an emotional response. The reason we aren't like animals and have a purpose is because we are human. Our brains have a logical and emotional function. It is easier to be religious because it doesn't require thought. You do what people tell you to do, just because they tell you to. You follow a set of rules without really knowing why.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

True that, my friend.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm a Christian and I don't believe in God only because I'll be saved. I just want to point out that growing up, I wasn't raised in a church, and I made the decision to follow God myself. My favourite place in the world to be in my church's youth ministry because it's filled with such joy and love. I don't feel restricted whatsoever; I feel like since I devoted my life to God, I am able to make better choices that benefit not only me, but those around me. I believe in God because I don't think there's a way that something so intricate and passionate like humanity could come from a lump of cells. There's so much to our world and I don't think every little thing happened just because of chance. Another reason I believe in Him is because of love. Love is such a strong emotion that can make people do crazy things; and I know it sounds crazy to a non-believer, but I can feel His love and feel Him with me. That's why I believe :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes. So? That's not a bad thing in the slightest. Stop thinking everything has a purpose. Every ACTION has a purpose, but the universe? No.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

To be honest, I am an athiest and it actually scares me. I'm only a teenager so my parents still take me to church and the priests always say that those who don't believe in God will go to hell. I don't want to believe in a superior being just because I might be punished if I don't. And isn't God supposed to love everybody? That doesn't sound very loving to me. And what is wrong with believing in evolution. There is scientific proof of evolution. I do respect the beliefs of others, but I am the type of person who just needs proof to believe something. I am not trying to insult anyone's beliefs. I believe that, if there is a God, he should judge us on our morals and what we do with our lives, not on whether or not we believe in him. I may be an athiest, but I still try to be a good person. Meamwhile, I always hear about people who claim to be religious doing horrible things. Would they still go to heaven just for believing in God? Would I go to hell just for needing proof?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

IF YOU PEOPLE THINK THAT GOD IS REAL THAN YOU ARE A MORON, HUMANS ARE A POINTLESS CREATURE (PARASITE) THAT WAS BORN IN A GOO OF CREATURES THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO EXIST BUT MAN DESTOYED THEM. THE ONLY GODDESS THAT MATTERS IS MOTHER NATURE.
