The bug eating humor was to appeal to young kids, and it worked. Also the delay was for plot reasons, he was still a cub when his dad first died, he wasn't going to be able to win back his home. He needed to wait until adulthood. I say this as someone who doesn't even like the Lion King that much, they're they're to entertain children (similar to Olaf in Frozen) and for plot progression.

Delay Simba having to grow up... As he was like...maybe a week old, at best. That would've happened regardless of comedic relief, they didn't delay anything...they didn't even try to impede his rekindling with Nala.

The movie is really just a terrible lesson for kids. A bad movie that anyone tolerates because they're too blinded by nostalgia...so in other words I agree with you.
