+31 Pedestrians should NOT have the right of way. amirite?

You think it's dangerous to require cars to slow down so people can cross the street? So if I'm at a cross walk and there are cars coming, those cars should speed by me and not let me cross? For safety?

This is exactly what happens in Massachusetts. Feels like cops don't care and some people are assholes. I had some near deaths on crosswalks.

What? Obey the signs and don't cross when you're not supposed to. Is it that hard?

A crosswalk is where a pedestrian is suppose to cross and usually there are no signs cause you know it's kinda the law to give way to pedestrians on a crosswalk.

Pedestrians only have the right of way in a crosswalk when they have crossing light. If you don't then the cars have right if way.

Only if it's at a traffic light. Most pedestrian crossing don't have lights cause that's kinda the point of them. To have a safe place to cross the road where there are no alternatives.

We don't have those where I live, and I don't think I have busted a place that did. It's the light or nothing here.

Safer as well as more efficient. Hell, it's even better for the environment. I understand it seems counterintuitive until you've seen it work beautifully in a big city where people understand the road is not meant for them to walk on/across and it's their responsibility to avoid traffic.

It's counterintuitive because it's wrong lol.

I said it seems counterintuitive, which means I would expect someone uninformed like yourself to think it's wrong. Try to keep up with the information and maybe try to use logic and learn instead of being stuck in your small perspective.

Kinda defeats the purpose of a crosswalk.

You shouldn't be at a "high rate of speed" around crosswalks, you know that there could be pedestrians crossing the streets. I always slow down and make them pass, it's the right thing to do. You don't know how many times i have crossed a street and the driver actually increases the speed because they think they can make it before me, that's incredibly dangerous.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

It's dangerous only if you are going too fast or you are too close the car in front of you. If you can actually drive is not dangerous at all. For your first point, i shouldn't be waiting for a car 50m far to pass before crossing the street, they should be the ones slowing down and not actually speeding

Prioritizing cars means the situation is never going to improve for pedestrians. Also there's more to the world than just the US. I will agree though that EVERY SINGLE PERSON should pay attention to anything and everything. It's hardly a driver's fault if that idiot tracks an ant on the ground and follows it into the street. It's be hard to prove yes but I wouldn't be opposed to that person being held fully responsible, no ifs buts or it's-my-right-as-an-American.

Yes OP there is some backward thinking going on and it is from you. If you can't control your car you should not be driving.

Agreed! Everyone control your cars. Thanks for your contribution
