+43 Most people that are anti card-only establishments are just nostalgic about using cash, amirite?

Cash is not traceable, cash makes it easier for some people to monitor their spending, cash is tangible and not just a concept which is easier for kids and old people to grasp. Don't get me wrong, I rarely ever carry cash with me anymore, but I do get why some people are like this

Don't get me wrong, I rarely ever carry cash with me anymore, but I do get why some people are like this Same on not carrying cash, I typically keep around $100 in a little hidden flap in my wallet for an emergency, but that's more for gas than anything.

I don't really carry cash either, but I think there's definitely a place for it. Are buskers and homeless people supposed to get card readers? Do you want to have to get a card reader if you want to do a car boot sale, yard sale or bake sale. It's that small scale stuff

Are buskers and homeless people supposed to get card readers? Nearly every busker I've seen these days have a card reader that you tap and it takes a certain amount off. Even people who sell the big issue ( a magazine that is sold by disadvantage people on the street to allow them to have an income in aus) have a tap and go option.

Well that shows how little I get out the house then. Feels like it was only a couple years ago I was talking to my barber and they said getting a card reader was too expensive. Covid changed a lot. We have the big issue in the UK too.

Lots of poor and undocumented people still depend on cash. There's also card hacking so some feel like it's safer. Nothing wrong with options.

Cash is still VERY common and can be used even when the technology fails. That happens A LOT in my region where internet access isn't great. There's also the ability of stores to add charges that you may not have been aware of and may have caused you to go elsewhere. If there's an overcharge, getting a refund can be a nightmare and may take days. Lastly, the increased digital access to your information opens you up to more opportunities for theft of your details. Card payment is a CONVENIENCE, it should not be absolute.

Cash is amazing and it should last as long as humanity. You can only take a certain budget with you do you don't overspend, it's not traceable and it works ALL the time, unlike technology

Well, you cant over spend on a debit card either

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Yeah but you just spend all your money lol. I usually like to take a certain amount of money when going to a bar, so I don't over do it

Thats what having different accounts is for. A savings account that you take money out of and put into the spending one when and how much you need

And what if I want to buy some weed from a guy without the government knowing? Or make a website for a friend that I'll get paid for, but won't have to tax? Untraceable currency gives you freedom. Free from the technology and free from the government

by Price61 1 month ago

I was just explaining that debit works the same as cash. You can't spend more than what you have. Fyi, you can transfer money to someone even when you are buying weed. Theres no proof it was sent for weed. Just say it was a gift, mate. God.

I don't use cash as mich but sometimes I keep some on me

by Anonymous 1 month ago

clearly you are missing the point, why cash is needed. It does not matter which is more convenient.

by Anonymous 1 month ago

So what is the point?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Don't carry all your eggs in one basket. I like cash cause I can actually see the transaction of goods. But many asshole stablishments charge the total+tax= 15.25 BS charge. The smallest cent value where I live is 50c. Those little cents add up. Card transactions at least let me pay for those tiny amounts.

The complaints I'm seeing are small local businesses that won't take cash mostly

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I would have looked at your face at the moment of the bank failure. What is the commission and limit for transferring physical cash to another person? There are no limits.

Sometimes I have cash on me or only have cash available. What happens if my card doesn't work or a black out?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Card only makes you and everyone else more vulnerable against surveillance. You might think now "but I'm doing nothing wrong". So did a lot of people in the past before opinions shifted and malicious forces took over that suddenly redefined what was "wrong". You might remember a few examples from history class.

Except I've never left all my cash in one place, where I've accidentally left my card someplace...or someone didn't give it back to me. I've also had it where someone put up a false card reader at a gas pump...or the card itself can get hacked (sure, you're not responsible, still a pain in the ass for getting it straightened out...BTW I'm fine with cards and cash, I'm simply giving examples where things didn't go perfectly well with the card)...also, depending on the place and situation, tipping with cash is something that's a bit easier and seems more appreciated

Not everything is about nostalgia. Also you should always have cash available. In case something happens to the card that for some reason you can not use it to pay. I do mostly use card, but sometimes i will pay with cash.

Simple. How are the homeless people supposed to function. They rely on cash for most of their purchases and also cash because of people giving them change too.
