+33 The average cellphone won't get wider by design until our pants pockets do. amirite?

I think our hand size limits cellphone size more than pockets do

What is your opinion on Galaxy pushing that envelope with a foldable phone?

by cummingsnoel 1 month ago

I think foldables could become the norm if they perfected the form factor. When they can sell a device that's about as thin folded as conventional current smartphones are flat, and when they can get the unfolded screen to lay perfectly flat with no distortion at the fold…they'll have a hit.

I appreciate your knowledge but I honestly don't believe that selfishness will outweigh usefulness, because profit, unless and until a critical limit is reached I would love to be proven wrong

Ty, doesn't this already exist?

by cummingsnoel 1 month ago

*form factors sold separately

Real solution in search of a problem type device imo. Like it's cool for the 10 minutes a day you might watch a video on it or something but the other 23:50 it's just a very inconvenient phone that needs two hands to open.

Bring back jncos and we will find out!

Yeah, tell me you're a dude without telling me you're a dude.

Purses, backpacks, clip-on cases... so it's not pocket size. I suspect the reason is the average size of a person's hand thing, and that's why the extra big ones have sold poorly for years now.

I'm 6'2" and have pretty big hands. I used to work in the trades. Not a small guy. These phones are even too big for my hands. Laying on my back in bed, I don't drop the phone on my face but I know people that have to use two hands. I liked the smaller phones better. Even with bratwurst fingers.

you must not have been around for the blackberry. but also, phones as they currently exist could theoretically be extremely wide if they were oriented horizontally instead of vertically

Women: you have pockets?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

They don't care at all. Their marketing department wants them bigger

OshKosh B'Gosh will enter the adult clothing market to provide overalls with a convenient chest-center pocket, perfect for holding your triple-folding phablet... and snacks.

I just want the snacks pocket to be fair

I miss cargo pants. That's what cargo pants were for

Folk are getting fatter and fatter so presumably trouser pockets are growing What is not growing is the size of people's hands. That may be the limiting factor

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Samsung: are you sure about that?

by Dpollich 1 month ago

My switch screen fits in my pocket, I wouldn't use something that size as a phone though

by Anonymous 1 month ago

Jeans used to have giant pockets when I was young. Just need sufficiently vintage pairs to fit your enormo-phone in there.

I'm 6'3" with pretty big hands, I hope that phones don't get larger, I don't see how most people deal with it as it.

by Arne15 1 month ago

So when trouser pockets are a foot deep will we see really long phones?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

I hope that the average mobile phone goes back to being a sensible size, they are monsterous now. Why can't I have somehting the size of a Nokia 8210?

by Anonymous 1 month ago

My dress pants from 2010 have a little pocket in the pocket to hold your phone upright. My phone hasn't actually fit in it for several generations

Mobile phones are already starting to give way to wearables anyway.

Or until the normalisation of shoulder-bags for men gets a bit further along. I bought a nice crossbody bag a few months back and it's nice not having my pockets bulging with stuff all the time. Finally I understand why women's handbags are always full of crap. Mine has my wallet, my keys, sometimes my phone, a packet of tissues and a pair of sunglasses. Not to mention a chocolate bar in case I get the munchies. My phone could easily be a bit wider and I'd probably keep it in that bag rather than my pocket. Since I bought my bag I've started noticing more and more men wearing them, I suspect it's a growing trend, or perhaps I've just never noticed before.

My phone is already taller than my pants pockets.. so I don't see why this would matter. It's likely more due to the width of a persons hand to hold the device.

I'm patiently waiting for Nurolink to make it so I can beam everything straight into my brain.
