-30 Smart people have earned the right to be lazy. amirite?

by Potential_Action 4 weeks ago

Guess it's off to work with you then, OP.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Damn bro the smart guy he is talking about is you

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Call Tia and Tamara

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

If you earned your money, it's up to you how you spend it. It does not matter if you're intelligent or not and this is not an unpopular opinion, just a provocative way of phrasing a popular opinion.

by cruickshankmoze 4 weeks ago

billionaire being just an example of wealth. Wealth corrrelates with intelligence in the sense that upper management or owning a business requires it. No 70IQ person can lead a sucessful business. That wealth comes from somewhere... its not always generational families. Many people became rich in the past 10 years...

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I agree, but at the same time there are no billionaires who didn't come from wealth.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Mark Zuckerberg's father was a dentist... I don't think he inherited much wealth before founding Facebook. Zhang Yiming founder of ByteDance (Tiktok), his parents were civil servants...

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Zuckerberg parents were pretty well off and he was sent to private school. Other than that you named one guy. The point is it's almost impossible to gather that much wealth unless you born into a well off or rich family. Many of them are starting off will all debts already paid off for college and car if not tons of extra wealth.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah I did paint with broad strokes there but we can agree that wealth doesn't guarantee intelligence, but definitely they are correlated I won't argue that. Definitely if a dumb leader inherits a business it probs won't last long enough for them to maintain that wealth.

by KitchenLong1710 4 weeks ago

This the dumbest take I've ever seen.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You're the dumbest anything of all time.

by Content_Ad 4 weeks ago

Look at that billionaire that recently killed herself drunk driving.

by Fantastic-Ask 4 weeks ago

The wealthiest these days are mostly people that built it themselves. Yes, they generally came from upper middle class or better backgrounds, but the idea that a $300k investment from his parents is all that separates Bezos from anyone else is silly. On the whole, the finance and tech billionaires who didn't inherit it are all extremely smart, though in very similar and somewhat narrow ways. The tech revolution opened the door to monetize that type of intelligence to absurd levels. It doesn't mean they shouldn't pay taxes or own half the planet, but the idea that they are not smart or didn't work hard is just off.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Billionaires didn't earn their money.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Nah. No one person deserves billionaire money. Just like no person deserves more food than another person. Base needs should be met first, then we can consider multi-generational empire levels of wealth for a single person. The majority of the time these people started on third base and didn't "earn it" by working harder or being smarter than everyone else. Justify it all you want, but in the end you'll always be simpering for something you CAN NEVER nor WILL EVER attain or even the tiniest fraction of.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Calling people sheep is certainly one way of engaging in an argument. Though, I am confused: do you think that my gentle teasing of you is some kind of support for the billionaires of this world?

by Hazel83 4 weeks ago

You gave no indication otherwise. In fact, that seemed like a pretty good indicator of disagreement, at least on some level. That's definitely another way of engaging in an argument. It's just an analogy, dude. I'm not a medical doctor, either and I'm not actually smashing my leg with a hammer.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

:) must be ADS or something to be this socially unaware.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I like that

by Responsible-Deal 4 weeks ago

Trust me when I say this is definitely not a popular opinion.

by Ill-Committee-5437 4 weeks ago

I don't think people hate smart people that coast off their intelligence. I think they hate smart people that use their abilities to exploit others.

by mayerthomas 4 weeks ago

Elon was born rich. It's questionable how smart he is imo.

by RecordComfortable589 4 weeks ago

You can afford a lot of mistakes with $50,000,000,000.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

No, he has just been working full time for four thousand years (according to OPs million hours).

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Millions are born rich. You need to be smart to be as effective as Elon. Whether he is a good or bad person that's a different issue, but he is smart.

by Myrticekutch 4 weeks ago

Ever seen the stats on lottery winners? If Musk and Trump are making billions from millions, that tells me they are smarter than most lottery winners..at the least

by rosalynokon 4 weeks ago

Yeah, difference is that Elon and Don were coached to work with that kind of cash or at the very least grow into support structures that keep that cash multiplying and moving around them. Lottery winners are more of a sick social experiment of "what happens if you dump a ton of cash on someone who is not ready to live with the realities of that kind of money"

by eldora30 4 weeks ago

Applying education takes smarts

by rosalynokon 4 weeks ago

They also had access to a network of highly successful and well-connected individuals to help them succeed. Wealth is just as much about who you associate with as much as it is about funds in your bank account. Much easier to get approved for huge loans and secure investment if you come from an established family. Anyone can win the lottery, turning those winnings into major gains takes connections and serious knowledge of the financial world that Joe-average doesn't have in their peer network

by Muellerfletcher 4 weeks ago

Then we would not see so many people go from riches to rags and from rags to riches.

by rosalynokon 4 weeks ago

The only company Elon Musk founded or bought that might change the world for the better is SpaceX. The other ones are awful, specially his beloved X...

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Elon didn't even found Tesla in the first place either. He was the third employee at the company and had to sue for the title of founder.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

founded or bought That's why I said founded or bought, he bought his way in on that one trough SolarCity stock.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

SpaceX, Neuralink, angel investor, boring company, OpenAI and the Musk Foundation. This is a bit reductive.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Starlink is the only one that's improved my life

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

hahahah

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I mean...not saying he will be successful but it seems that's the plan.... Or maybe he just enjoys these things... He said back in day tesla wasn't a company he saw surviving, he merely was trying to force the motor industry to change, which it has.

by rosalynokon 4 weeks ago

Couldn't it just be that he wants to improve things? Same with Bill Gates? Maybe it's not some grand scheme but genuine interest for the future of mankind? Like the way all the people are screeching at billionaires to just "fix" the world with money?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I'm not sure on Bill Gates, I feel he is trying to create a legacy for his line more than anything else I trust him less

by rosalynokon 4 weeks ago

Mutually beneficial. If ppl remember him as some great guy and his childrens-childrends-children live a good live But millions of people live better lives as a result. I'm honestly not complaining...

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Copy pasta Gates takes tax-payer-funded vaccine research and gives it to private companies. Who then prevents anyone from having the vaccine that the taxpayer paid for, unless people pay monopoly prices. Good luck if you are the world's poor. It is the same with his education initiatives: designed to crush unions so teachers get less money. It is the same with his African farming initiatives: designed to take power from small farmers and give it to multinationals. It is the same with all his philanthropy: if he is giving away all his money, why does he keep getting richer? Lets remember his foundation has more money than half the countries in the world

by rosalynokon 4 weeks ago

So your response is a conspiracy meme... ok. Since there's no establishing any of those claims without proof and I'm sure if we looked honestly at all of the things in that meme we could find there's probably a lot more nuance to it... But I already had a Jan6'er and a Covid-denier conspiracy talk this week. I don't need a third one tbh.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You seem like a person who uses esoteric and "large" words to seem more intelligent than you are :)

by rosalynokon 4 weeks ago

I don't know. Someone who does the things he's done like being childish and firing people over tweets despite being in the wrong, doesn't sound to me like someone who's genuinely interested in making the world a better place. You'd think people with such lofty goals would have far better character and moral values

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I'm not saying it isn't used today, I'm saying he has, in my mind, looked at what the world needs tomorrow and made it a reality.

by rosalynokon 4 weeks ago

fair

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You can think so, but "earned" is a terrible word to use lmao

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Probably wisdom would be a better word than intelligence. One can earn wisdom.

by Ok_Trust 4 weeks ago

Why?

by First_Egg1087 4 weeks ago

Yeah, people with head trauma will see reduced scores. Same with people who take the tests while under the influence of alcohol. Also, the word you want use is "genetic," not "genetical."

by ara00 4 weeks ago

Obviously. What is your point?

by forestconnelly 4 weeks ago

The point is to add to what you said about people who are sleep deprived seeing lower PSI scores.

by ara00 4 weeks ago

Yes, all scores get affected by sleep deprivation but PSI is what gets the most affected. Sleep deprivation can triple your reaction time

by forestconnelly 4 weeks ago

Oh ok I see

by First_Egg1087 4 weeks ago

No, blue collar workers who work 40-60 hours every week doing back breaking work all day earned the right to be lazy. A lot of smart people already are lazy and overweight because of this mentality.

by Remote_Regret 4 weeks ago

Then they better put extra money away for early retirement.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Yeah, if you think this, you ain't that smart.

by eldora30 4 weeks ago

"The world needs ditchdiggers too."

by ritchiejuvenal 4 weeks ago

Don't know if I would attribute smart - success. A lot of smart people who aren't successful and vice versa. However it's probably not well understood that people who are pretty successful work a lot less than people who aren't. They work smarter and their money earns them more money.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Being smart while working with dumb people makes me lazy. Thanks for your support.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Uhhh no sh!t*

by Responsible-Deal 4 weeks ago

Without claiming "intelligence," I don't enjoy being lazy. It sucks. I think your assumption that lazy is desirable is flawed.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Sure is a huge coincidence that we started gutting the humanities in high school and college twenty years ago and now we have a bunch of psychopaths who aren't even familiar with incredibly basic concepts like the social contract that they used to teach people by age fourteen.

by ZealousidealCraft 4 weeks ago

It is very funny you regard Musk as a person who's changing the world for the better. I would argue it's a capacity and desire thing. Smart people seek fulfillment not just temporary gratification. For a lot of smart people, fulfillment includes mental stimuli and a sense of accomplishment, as those more vague ideas are more challenging to come by then physical wants, which are easier for the smarter to achieve. Most smart people often just get bored lounging around, so it's better to fill our time with projects we deem worthwhile. I mean sure, logically if they find a way to retire early all the more power to them. But smart people don't tend to be so easily entertained.

by KitchenLong1710 4 weeks ago

There is no honour in living a life that is less than the one you are capable of living - Nelson Mandela

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You also didn't "earn" the love of your mother, and thus are not entitled to her. Because you were raised in an environment, I also am entitled to equal love and access of your mother. We are each capable and the true determinant, on mass, is individual effort. What the Americans realised with their right to self defence is that a lot of people look to the outcome but actively avoid the necessary process, and grow resentful.

by Ill-Committee-5437 4 weeks ago

I think this is a case where KISS would best apply. You're over analysing IMO.

by Ill-Committee-5437 4 weeks ago

noblesse oblige but I guess nobody even knows what that means.

by Ashamed_Statement339 4 weeks ago

Just want to point out you didn't become smart on your own. Society educated you, society provided genetics, society provided you with water electricity etc.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Not that I'm especially intelligent, but I definitely do a job that very few people are able to do. This involves a lot of down time. I take my downtime relatively guilt free.

by Agustinkemmer 4 weeks ago

OP must be the hardest working guy in the world

by Due-Insect-1469 4 weeks ago

alright OP we're off to work today

by Internal_Bank 4 weeks ago

Agreed. If you can get by without being a leech on society, then you don't "owe" society anything. Nobody deserves anyone else's labor just because that other person is capable of performing labor. If someone is happy putting sustaining themselves with minimal effort, then by all means they're free to do so.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I'm an engineer and I'm really good at coding. I can churn out complex projects in a matter of hours. So naturally I goof around and then eventually sit down and knock it out. "As long as it's done well and on time" or whatever

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Society is too stupid to accept help by smarter people

by MarketingNo5275 4 weeks ago

Thanks for this.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

You welcome

by Potential_Action 4 weeks ago

Smart is not equatable to rich or powerful. Also this a popular opinion held by people.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

If you're born "smart" then you didn't earn that

by Current_Steak8928 4 weeks ago

Literally no one believes what you are claiming they do lmao

by Traditional_Bag 4 weeks ago

This is an interesting take. Most people who aren't "smart" make WAY more money than the people who are "smart" because they do what people tell them to do.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Lol, in what world does Elon Musk make things better?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Elon , change the world for better... 🤣

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Amen

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Lazy means you leach off of other people because you are too lazy to do anything for yourself. It obviously doesn't apply to people who make their own way, no matter how they made it.

by Decent_Historian 4 weeks ago

Lazy people are no where near as smart as they think they are.

by Traditional_Beat4983 4 weeks ago

No smart person would settle for living a sedentary lifestyle somewhere on a beach drinking pina coladas for the rest of their life. That's dumb person's idea of a good life.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

Then call me an idiot

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

it's not meant literally. I've seen very smart people smoking pot and reading books for example.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I didn't mean it literally either. My point was that smart people usually like to spend their lives productively.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

I much prefer the wealthy to retire to a beach rather than attempt to control society to the detriment of most of society

by Moist_Tear3231 4 weeks ago

You can't work hard to become smart, you're born that way, it's not only an unpopular opinion but an incorrect one too!

by elroy89 4 weeks ago

based but unpopular.

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago
