I guess it depends on your definition of occurring in nature.

True dat! What's your definition of occurring in nature?

nat·u·ral ˈnaCHər(ə)l,ˈnaCHr(ə)l/ adjective 1. existing in or caused by nature; not made or caused by humankind. "carrots contain a natural antiseptic that fights bacteria" 2. of or in agreement with the character or makeup of, or circumstances surrounding, someone or something. "sharks have no natural enemies" I think technically everything isn't 100% natural

But humans are existing in and were "caused" by nature so what gives?

That's beautiful! I think everything IS 100% natural. We should be friendimies!

There are 24 synthetic elements that do not occur naturally. Curium, for example; it didn't even exist before 1944.

But what were they made of? If I'm smashing natural things together in some sort is particle smashing thingy and making something unnatural, but it's origin parts are natural isn't it still natural? Not trying to be a Contrary Karen, but eventually, not in our lifetime, it's gonna break down right? RIGHT? Please say it will!

If by technically you mean if we ignore what words mean, then sure.

by LengthinessWorth 4 weeks ago

That's the thing! If we ignore what words mean, then how can something be unnatural? If it doesn't come from nature, where does it come from?

by Anonymous 4 weeks ago

What's more natural? The experience or the words that people mangle to describe it? What it the actual basis of natural?

And everything is chemicals

Yeah I was thinking about this humans. The word natural is a weird concept created by humans. I mean we are nature. How is a human building different then an ant hill? So how is one thing natural and the other unnatural? We like to think of ourselves as something other than the earth which is just not true. At least until we are stuck on this planet.

I had a conversation with my girlfriend a few months ago about how I think it's incredibly arrogant of us to consider ourselves as "outside of nature". We are millions of years of constant evolution, and everything we use comes from this planet. How is technology not the next step of evolution? How is technology not in our nature?

Natural means "not manmade". Plenty of things are manmade.

Why is it wrong? Asking for a friend.

Does that include supernatural beings?

Super natural is better than regular natural!

No matter how complicated it's chemical structure, it breaks down into natural elements. It's the combinations that are scary. Like dihydrogen monoxide!
