UK is one of the least bio diverse places in Europe. It has been absolutely scalped for grazing and shooting. Hardly any real forests/woodland remains.

Yeah it definitely feels like it

Farmland isn't nature but all the trees and plans and animals around it is.

Did you know that cows (as we know them today) absolutely could not exist without humans?
by Anonymous5 months ago
Cars probably wouldn't exist either.

And that they actually rather semi forested land to pastures. Near where I live, the forestry commission or equivalent has paid farmers to trial out cattle having the opportunity to wander into the forest if they wish. I don't really understand the metrics of cow happiness, but apparently they are happier and healthier and there is a direct link to forest areas and varied diet.

I disagree to be honest. The (English) countryside is often described as a patchwork, i.e fields divided by hedgerows, which sure the hedgerows act as a habitat for plants, insects and birds, but they can't support any greater biodiversity, and they only make up a small percentage of the land.

Loads of Dartmoor should be forested, but the rich folk back in the day levelled loads of it for ease of hunting and it just doesn't recover from that.

It's still nature, it's just organised.

FFS.

I don't think is an unpopular opinion. I think it is fact that most people realize.
by emmitt755 months ago
Hmm maybe, but I think you'd be surprised the amount of people who think otherwise. Especially in the UK, if you say countryside, that is synonymous with farmland.
by norvalabshire5 months ago
Yeah there's a similar thing in Australia, so much of the landscape has been flattened for farming and it's really sad.
by Anonymous5 months ago
Yeah that's the thing, I think it only feels like nature in contrast to urban environments where most people live. But if you scratch the surface you realize it's about as natural as a golf course.
