Horrible example LOL. An extinction event happens, we'll be fine. the most recent close call we've had was the Chelyabinsk Event in Russia. A small meteor passed through our atmosphere, didn't even hit the earth, and it was like a bomb going off.

The earth is a big rock in space. Humans barely scratch the surface with their tunnels. The planet doesn't care if it's hot or cold. It's the humans who suffer. The same way a person doesn't care what happens with all the microbiology living on their skin.
