Social Media is the cigarettes and alcohol of the 21st Century. amirite?
by Long-Ad1 week ago
I scroll and smoke. Double damage
by Ghagenes1 week ago
Sup dawg. Heard you liked cancer. So we put smoking inside social media so that you can get cancer while you get cancer
by beattyaracely1 week ago
Social media is far worse than cigarettes and alcohol!
by Anonymous1 week ago
That's why it's far worse and not just worse, it because it's worse despite the mortality!
by Anonymous1 week ago
I mean, is it REALLY worse than being dead?
by Careful_Grass1 week ago
Yes social media impact and let you impact much more people, cigarettes and alcohol usually are killing just you.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Well I mean you can still live until 90 or older even if you've been drinking and smoking for a long time if you're lucky. Even if you died younger at least you enjoyed your time lol. With social media it makes you feel dead inside just scrolling for the dopamine hit.
by Anonymous1 week ago
That's exactly my point
by Anonymous1 week ago
Yeah me neither, I was just agreeing 😁
by Anonymous1 week ago
So does alcohol and cigarettes when the person dies and leave the families behind. You can't convince me being bullied online is equal to seeing a family member drink themselves to death lol
by Careful_Grass1 week ago
I would like to add to this point. Loneliness and being alone is seen by the medical community as worse for your health then cigarettes or alcohol. While not all people with social media access become alone, or feel lonely. We know it does increase the likelihood of this happening.
by After-Principle1 week ago
I think we will agree to disagree on this one.
by Careful_Grass1 week ago
Mother always told me you can debate with anyone but you'll never win against idiots
by Careful_Grass1 week ago
Uh, no.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Ya at least those make you feel good at some point.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Maybe on a national level, but I'd strongly disagree on a personal level. My mom is an alcoholic that drank through my entire childhood and most of my young adult years. She's been on the wagon almost 20 years now, but I still get flashbacks to those days. She's an entirely different, much better person now than she was then.
by Anonymous1 week ago
You've never had a family member addicted to alcohol
by Cmayer1 week ago
Who knows
by Anonymous1 week ago
No lol cigarettes and alcohol never threatened the very structure of society.. well at least other than prohibition Social media is a mind control WMD
by Anonymous1 week ago
What about social media while smoking and drinking?
by Intelligent-Cash-2221 week ago
true, last year my friend died from lung cancer caused by his facebook addiction.
by Zackaryhermisto1 week ago
You can be actively addicted to something and still hate it. Most addicts are desperate to get rid of their addiction, same with social media. Doesn't mean it's easy.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Cigarette addiction is just as much psychological as it is physiological. Any smoker will tell you that. You get over the "physical" withdrawals within two or three days, the psychological withdrawals lasts for months. It's all about hitting those reward centers in your brain. Playing basketball isn't a good comparison but if you want to go that route, take something like working out. People definitely get addicted to working out. Porn, social media, whatever. You don't have to be physically dependent on something to be addicted to it.

I'm a smoker myself, I'm from Turkey, everyone is a smoker over here. Nicotine is a highly addictive chemical, we are not addicted to having some stick in our mouths, we are addicted to the chemicals inside the cigarette, mainly nicotine. You are not addicted to social media. You just use it because it's a quick and mildly entertaining way to pass the time. That's different than an addiction.
by Anonymous1 week ago
You seem unwilling to accept the fact that psychological addiction is real so there's no need to further this conversation. Have a good day.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I'm not going to accept something just because you say it's real. Tell me, how does social media addiction work exactly? How do you determine a person is addicted to social media? What goes through their brains when a social media addict is kept from accessing social media?
by Anonymous1 week ago
Not at all. I disagree with the extension you've made entirely.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Of course you can. This is the every single definition of social media you will find out there though.
by Anonymous1 week ago
It is in the ways that matter — ie it's full of toxic negativity that will absolutely eat at your psyche if you let it.

Literal brain rot

Still baffles my mind how ppl at any time didnt think smoke inhalation was bad.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Tanning leather makes it tougher, why wouldn't tanning your lungs help make them stronger? (/s, but I could see people saying that in the past)
by Anonymous1 week ago
I 100% agree with this.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I'm pretty sure cigarettes and alcohol are still the cigarettes and alcohol of the 21st century
by DrawIndependent21501 week ago
Nah it's worse than that. Cigarettes and alcohol poison the body, social media poisons the fabric of society.
by Anonymous1 week ago
I don't think this is the unpopular opinion you might think it is. I think the shine is worn off and more and more ppl are finding it abhorrent. Personally as a father I'm already on board with educating my kids about how to use it effectively and won't be giving them access until highschool .
by Anonymous1 week ago
I smoked for roughly 15 years. My addiction to the "scroll" is just as strong, if not stronger than the urge to smoke a cigarette was. It's crazy.
by Anonymous1 week ago
You're correct, but also this is not an unpopular opinion.

I recon cigarettes and alcohol are the cigarettes and alcohol of the 21st century
by raleighgraham1 week ago
Cigarettes and alcohol are still cigarettes and alcohol of the 21st century.
by Anonymous1 week ago
Alcohol is still pretty normal. We're in the early stages of de-normalizing binge drinking for younger people and casual, light, but frequent drinking for everyone.. Smoking is dying off. For at least 10 years I've 'noticed' people smoking.. Before that it was just what some (a lot) of people did.
