+44 Palpatine is the main character in the Star Wars Cinematic Universe, amirite?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The main character is who the narrative focus follows most, not the most influential character. Your preferences don't change how that works.

Who are we waiting for to make the next move or show up in the next scene?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

In most of the movies it wasn't Palpatine.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yes it was, nothing happens without him

by Anonymous 1 week ago

This is literally not true. The Emperor didn't even become a real character until Empire and even then he was secondary to the Luke/Vader storyline.

Grand Morph Tarkin makes reference to the Emperor

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yes, but he's not involved in the plot of the movie in any way.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That doesn't make him the main character. The main chartacter is who you see the movie through for most of the film. For Star Wars that's mainly Luke, Anakin and Rey.

I dunno, I might have been a creepy kid, but as soon as I saw that dude, I was like, he's my guy. I want him tp win

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Lol, he was a bit of a silly billy with the old hand lightening

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Not silly. It's called bad writing. And to do it two more times….once in each successive trilogy….just compounds it.

Truth

I really hope they reboot 1-3, and 7-9

by croninmonica 1 week ago

I think 1 - 3 work well as a space opera, but 7 - 9 are gack

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I really didn't mind the political angle. It was refreshing and it makes sense as the spark to a war. I hated jar jar, pod racing, and the science angle behind the force

by croninmonica 1 week ago

Jar jar is wondaful I think, sometimes a dunderhead "hero of the civil war" become a useful pawn, watch it with Jar Jar being satire in mind

by Anonymous 1 week ago

That isn't what a main character is.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The phrase main character is a reference to the idea of a main (primary) character in a work of fiction that the story centers around. Who is doing more to drive the plot forward? There's no change or drive without him.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It kind of does though, he's a chess master moving pieces on a board, everyone else is a lesser piece

by Anonymous 1 week ago

"The phrase main character is a reference to the idea of a main (primary) character in a work of fiction that the story centers around." If Palpatine does nothing then there is no story

by Anonymous 1 week ago

But that isn't a main character. You are just wrong because you are changing the meaning of "main character" just to suit your opinion. All you're describing is an antagonist.

"The phrase main character is a reference to the idea of a main (primary) character in a work of fiction that the story centers around." If Palpatine does nothing then the story doesn't happen

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Are you just gonna keep repeating that? You are wrong, and now I believe you don't even understand the concept of a main character

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Okay give me your definition

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The definition isn't the problem, you are deliberately misinterpreting it.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

The main character is the character the view the work through.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No, he's not.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

He clearly is

by Anonymous 1 week ago

He's not the main character. Anakin and Obi is the movies main pov/main character in the sequels. Luke being the other main Like I get it, you're an idiot. But a main character is the one you view the world and events through.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

would there have been a Star wars narrative without the Emperor?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Not one thing you said described would make him a main character

by Alveracrist 1 week ago

What would make them the main character?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Palpatine essentially didn't exist in episodes 4, 5, 7, and 8 and he was basically a secondary character in episodes 1 and 6. He was really only a primary character in 2, 3, and 9. So objectively speaking this is just false.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

What happens in Star Wars if the emperor doesn't exist?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

What do you mean? There are several Star Wars movies where the entire plot of the movie had nothing to do with the Emperor.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Which ones?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Can you explain how any of those people are doing what they are doing without mentioning Palpatine?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Serving the Empire?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

At the head of which is?
