When I worked at BK in the mid 80's we had a salad bar and this one lady would come in daily, make a huge salad and have us microwave it for two minutes. It came out steaming like mad. She would go sit down and eat that thing like it was the greatest thing on earth.

It has to be the right kind of lettuce, don't use any delicate leaf or it's going to turn to slime. I personally microwave cabbage for my salad because it's hearty and tastes great when it's hot, same with kale. I do this when I make taco salads, gotta melt that cheese right on the greens.

I don't really like when foods are cold that aren't normally supposed to be cold so I do tend to microwave whatever meat (I don't mean cold cuts, I mean more like chicken or beef) I might be putting onto my salad before adding it to the rest of the cold salad which ultimately makes the salad overall a little bit lukewarm, but purposely wanting warm lettuce is not something I have ever heard of.

I once had a warm salad with undercooked scrambled eggs mixed into the dressing served to me at a fine dining restaurant. It was genuinely delicious and all I could think was that must have been some crazy good technical skill by the chef to serve something so objectively nasty and make it work. Microwaving shredded cheese is not that technical skill.
