+54 Shy cats are the best, amirite?

My first cat, I was at the shelter and saw these little eyes looking at me from underneath a blanket. I just fell in love with her. As she got older she came out of her shell and loved being around people. Her and I were joined at the hip for the next 16 years. I now have 2. One is a monster of a boy, very extroverted. My girl though is super shy. She can't even have someone in the kitchen while she eats. But she is so loving. My boy on the other hand will eat your hand after about 2 minutes of pets. Shy cats are awesome.

That gives me hope. I worry so much for those blanket dwellers. They are so scared in the shelter that it's impossible for them to get any attention from potential adopters. When I see them, the people like you that look into those deep holes and say, "I'll take her", I just know that those kitties are going to the most forgiving and loving homes.

My current kitty was a blanket dweller with serious trust issues, took upwards of a year for him to fully come out of his shell, literally and figuratively, because he figured out how to hid inside our walls. If you adopt a blanket dweller you have to be willing to take them in without knowing what kind of animal they will turn into, they might remain recluse or they might turn into a lap kitty. Thankfully my boy became a really snuggle bug, but we were also okay if he just wanted to exist in our house away from us.

Mine wouldn't let us see her sleep for several years. It wasn't until a series of medical issues that she realized that we have her best interests at heart. She finally became a lap kitty at 14. She's now 17 and, aside from some arthritis, she's healthy and happy.

My late husband's cat Mouse was just the most shy sweet creature ever. She was introduced to him by our friend's mom who is a veterinarian and refused to let her stay in a shelter. We didn't know her exact age but she was with us for eighteen years and was just the best critter ever.

My cat hid in our basement for the first month we had him. It took 3 months before he would let us touch him, then about 6 months before he first sat on my lap. Now he is the snuggliest cat I have ever had. We let him adapt to our home at his own pace and the patience definitely paid off. He is super shy around visitors, which makes it all the more special that he is so trusting of us.

my cat was originally really zoomy and energetic as a kitten, but as she's gotten older she mellowed out a lot, and i really agree with this! it's so satisfying to just peacefully spend time with her, three feet apart cuz she wants her space, and it makes the times she DOES want to cuddle the absolute highest honor one can achieve. also i just relate to her so hard. i also like to sit in the corner of a room with people i love, and just exist nearby them as a form of socializing and affection. it's great

Can confirm. Get the cat that makes you want to impress them. That's the seed of a great relationship.

The most wholesome unpopular opinion I've read 🥰

My shy girl is the best. At first, she ran away if you even looked in her direction. Now she wakes me up for pets. We're not 100% yet, but she has improved a lot. Much nicer than my hoe of a cat who was the lovey kind, and now he's pushed me aside for my SIL's foster fail, lol.

Shy people are the best too, for the same reasons. Maybe that's an unpopular opinion as well, haha.

Could not agree more. I love cats that make me earn it because once I do, the bond is so much stronger than cats who like everybody.

Nothing that includes cats is the best. Examples: love, hunting, eating, hugging, owning, talking to, dying with, sleeping with, walking, playing, bathing, swimming.

One reason to get a shy cat - if you've lost previous cats during the young adult reckless phase, shy cats tend to be more cautious and less likely to make a stupid mistake that ends their life.

Personally I much preffer to see cats wary of humans. It's all well and good seeing a cat on the street and it running over to give you affection. But it's not doing the cat any favours l. Especially when the world is full of arseholes who would just as happily mistreat an animal that offers that level of trust. A cat we own picked me as it's owner purely because when we got her in the house I was the only one who was willingly ignoring her and giving her the time and space she needed to feel comfortable. The other half by comparison was all over like Elmyra from tiny toons forcing cuddles and attention on the cat. Unsurprisingly I'm that cats favourite person and the first one she'll greet or cry for when I'm not there

If you're worried about your cat getting abused on the street... Don't let it go in the street without supervision, then??
