It's not about a relationship my friend has had this cat for 2 years she treats it very well it just doesn't like her it likes to be alone. Which is fine but than why has said friend been spending so much money on it and for what?

Some cats are more solitary than others. They can be very easily overstimulated. If it was born feral or in a shelter, or if it came from an abusive home previously, then that sort of stuff can impact a cat for a long time. There are plenty of websites out there she can use to help socialize the cat more- playing with it, feeding the cat from her hand to associate your friend with positive interactions, use calming sprays, trying to figure out if there's something in the current environment like loud sounds or smells, etc that may be causing the cat to keep its distance. If your friend tries forcing affection on the cat, that can also make the cat more resistant to bonding.

I'd be with you if you left out "most". Most cats are very personable and give their friends plenty of entertainment and love. Judging based on one person you know is a failure.

Most cats love to cuddle with their owners. So your friends cat is more an exception than the rule. Might as well just say 'cats that avoid all contact unless its for food are a waste of money'. Thats a specific group of cats that are the minority and your title would actually reflect your opinion. But then you wouldnt have a title worthy to be called an unpopular opinion.

Waste of money? They are borderline a pest. Hairs everywhere, scratches everywhere, (sometimes) may puke/defecate everywhere. Unlike dogs, you can't take them on trips.
