-37 "Hugging" should automatically make you lose the round in boxing. amirite?

But then Mayweather would lose?

by Particular-Fail 1 week ago

I didn't want to name drop but that's one of the big boxers I was thinking of that religiously and excessively does that

Excessive clenching could lead to a point deduction or even disqualification

Lose at boxing, win at making friends

We can be friends if you want :)

How? You don't even like hugging.

by Yvonnemetz 1 week ago

I'll make an exception for you, we can hug all day long

by grace72 1 week ago

I'm ok with the "hugging" but I draw the line at blowing kisses!

I'm actually for for real kissing.

It's a tactic. They aren't just holding. Usually putting weight on them to drain stamina. It's up to them to learn how to counter

Not always unless it's mayweather vs logan paul. Mayweather made easy money with that. A lot happens in clinches. Especially if they are expierenced. I don't think losing a round is the right call.

If it's excessive then I definitely do think losing the round is the right call. I'm not saying that the moment you first do it that you should automatically lose the round but if you continuously do it in the round you should get point reduction and if you continue to do it in later rounds and that turns into your strategy to win then it should start turning into losing rounds

How are we gonna call excessive? Are you talking about clinches where there are jabs? Or holding? There's still a lot going on either way? Or like ufc if grappling is stalling they stand the fighters up?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No if there's clinches and they still fight then that's completely fine what I'm talking about is when a boxer makes that his complete strategy, they almost completely ignore throwing jabs and just go for "hugging" as much as they can until the end of the fight. And ufc is very different from boxing, in UFC when they start grappling it's still very much a fight but in boxing it makes it very difficult for the opponent to make good hits that will get them points and help them win the fight and it turns more into a little kid wrestling match than it is boxing.

Can you point out examples? I can't recall a match especially recently where the fighters whole strategy was holding. Even in ufc they reset the fighters. There hasn't been one in a while but it happens.
