+37 Appreciating the work of a bad guy is not a bad thing. amirite?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I think one factor is that people often can't separate an artist from their work, especially if the artist's actions are recent. You can condemn a man for their actions and behavior but acknowledge their work and contribution to whatever field they put their life into. But if their actions are still fresh in your mind, in the media, or just still relevant it's harder to see them and their work as separate, and that supporting their work is supporting them. As time goes on, however, the acts are forgotten but the contribution remains, more so if their work was groundbreaking and/or influential to the ir genre or to music overall.

What did Picasso do?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Just wanted to put this here; Michael Jackson didn't do anything like that to kids. Guy had a HORRENDOUS childhood, and he just wanted to get the chance to actually be a kid Guy has been dragged through the mud for years even after his death, all because he had some very bad trauma

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Speaking of unpopular opinion, I kinda always believed the guy, too. Felt more sorry for him than anything else. All the money in the world can't repair a life spent living with a father like he had.

If I enjoy the persons music I'm gonna listen to the music regardless of who's made it,anybody who doesn't must have a miserable life cause they be looking for reasons to be upset.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Ehhhhh lostprophets tho.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Hahaha they are the only one I gave up

by Hot-Association 1 week ago

Yeah it's hard to listen to once you know

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Enlighten me please

by Murky_Opposite_4665 1 week ago

Singer molested a baby. That's why their music isn't on any streaming platforms.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No, but it'll make them less financially compensated, less rewarded, and less validated in their life path, views and the effect they have on whomever their behavior injures.

by AdJolly7085 1 week ago

Disliking the product because of artist is similar to the infamous ad hominem fallacy. In short it's an irrelevance.

by Kossjerel 1 week ago

Separating the art from the artist is something a lot of people don't have the capability to do. For example Kevin Spacey is a despicable human being but he was a phenomenal actor.

by Designer-Drama3033 1 week ago

I don't think "reclaiming his childhood" gives him the right to diddle kids.

by Anikabuckridge 1 week ago

I've never seen any incontrovertible evidence that he hurt any kids. Circumstantial evidence isn't enough. I have a strong suspicion that MJ was asexual.

by Doyleedmond 1 week ago

The "Leaving Neverland" documentary has in depth showcases of the kids that Michael abused. They give their testimonies and it was confirmed by them that they got paid off to not reveal he took advantage of them. Millions of dollars for an average family back in the 2000s is more than enough of a reason to not tell on him. They had hard evidence against him, which was not used cause they got paid off. Just watch the documentary.

by Anikabuckridge 1 week ago

Really adds to their legitimacy going to court while he was alive and vehemently denying anything happened but after money got on the table changed their tune

by Icy-View2484 1 week ago

it was confirmed by them that they got paid off to not reveal he took advantage of them. But was it confirmed by external sources ? At, the end of the day its just testimony. Does the documentary actually feature any hard evidence?

by Murky_Opposite_4665 1 week ago

What might that look like?

by AdJolly7085 1 week ago

No real reason to put Michael Jackson in there. There's never been any real evidence that he did what he's accused of.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

What about the naked pics of Macaulay culkin?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I enjoy Orson Scott Card novels (Ender's Game series) but he's a raging homophobe. I'm able to separate artist from art.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

To defeat a formidable opponent, you must first respect the things he/she does well.

by Dangerous_Stand 1 week ago

How an artist behaved is going to at least partially unknowable and my appreciation of art is about the art. If I like a bone in ribeye made a certain way and I find out the guy who invented that recipe was later thrown in prison for some crime wellโ€ฆ. I'm still eating my steak made that way.

by marlenetoy 1 week ago

This is roughly the point I was trying to get across,.but I was heated and started ranting lol.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

OK sure, but are you going to his restaurant?? The man doesn't get financial reward and validation because you use his recipe..

by AdJolly7085 1 week ago

I mostly agree, but it can be hard for me to get on board with weird comedians who have committed shady transgressions. I feel like once I know what they did, it's too easy for me to see it reflected in their comedy and general demeanor.

by Trevion27 1 week ago

100% agree. If someone is a known abuser and then makes a song about abusing a partner then it's an immediate write off for me. But that never happens. I don't really pay enough attention to comedians to know specifics about what you mean but I get it.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah, I can even tolerate Louis c.k.'s comedy (barely), but comedians like Chris d'elia were ruined for me. It just becomes too obvious what they had done to me, even a lot of the things they joke about are just clear reflections of their sick minds. As for music, like, if we couldn't tolerate some degree of celebrity malpractice, we basically couldn't listen to anything ๐Ÿ˜† fame is a corrupting power for most, I don't think the human psyche is meant to handle that much attention and power. I call it the "red button syndrome." Stardom gives you access to anything you could ever dream of, including anything corrupt and vile. It's like you have a constant red button that you really shouldnt press, constantly blinking at you. Eventually, you're probably gonna press that red button, simply because you can, and doing so is probably a rush. This isn't a justification for terrible behavior by any means, but if you or I or anyone else were suddenly thrust into stardom, we'd probably press that button at some point or another too, no matter how morally strong we think we are.

by Trevion27 1 week ago

I have not read the court documents directly, no :o I'm not sure I want to, but my curiosity is probably gonna get the better of me ๐Ÿซ

by Trevion27 1 week ago

This is the hyperextend version of separating art from the artist and I absolutely agree it's fine to enjoy and appreciate the work without being okay with the person behind it.

RD2 ending with music

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Ignoring the fact that their experiences influenced their work is morally blind.

by AdTall 1 week ago

Yeah I literally know nothing about the lives of the people who's art I consume and I have no desire to know. I just don't have the time or energy to think about that and I don't care who they are or what they do.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Most celebrities have some skeletons in their closet. Some more than others. And we just don't know about them. So yes, hard agree.

by Ok-Canary 1 week ago

I've always held the same opinion I can separate the artist as a person from their art. They might be a terrible person but good art is good art.

by Guilty-Math 1 week ago

MJ was actually a great guy

by Ok_Measurement7925 1 week ago

I'm not giving up the remix to Ignition, that's for sure. But nor am I giving up the art of Picasso or the poetry of Shelley and Byron.

Does OP enjoy the paintings from a particular Austrian?

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Asked and answered already. But not really art is not really my thing unless it's psychedelic in nature. But I do understand the people who would believe that this particular Austrian has a good talent that wasn't properly explored despite of his shortcomings in different areas that he might/should be judged for.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I guess you might enjoy these then.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's ok to enjoy his work of art specificaly, his other job though...

by Puzzled-Housing 1 week ago

Unfortunately never really was an art buff when it came to traditional paintings and hand drawn art. Don't know too much about it, so can't say I like or dislike. I am a firm believer in the head cannon that there is an alternate universe where Hitler went to art school and focused on his art. This drove him to grow as an artist until he was happy with his creations. I'm upset we have to live in the universe where he was rejected and decided to commit mass genocide.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I agree with everything you said 100%. I feel the same exact way about a lot of famous people. The only person I cannot forgive though is Will Smith for slapping Chris Rock. I don't know why but I want absolutely nothing to do with Will Smith as a person or His movies. I used to be a huge Will Smith movie fan. I just can't do it anymore. I feel ill whenever i see him now. The funny thing is, I'm not even a gigantic Chris Rock fan. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I mean, yeah, you can enjoy music made by domestic abusers. But hopefully you keep it to yourself. DV victims don't need to hear you recommending or praising a domestic abuser.
