+45 It's a common stereotype that men are straightforward while women are indirect, but it's men who are taught not to show their feelings, amirite?

And how does that make you feel?

What's this 'feel' you speak of?

Frustrated.

What you want and feelings are not the same thing. You may feel sad - this makes you want - pizza

That would solve being sad. Unless you're lactose intolerant, but I assume all lactose intolerant people are always sad.

I think these two conditions support each other much more than oppose each other

Exactly! Feelings are complex and often difficult to convey straightforwardly. Someone who is highly emotional may come off as confusing or hard to deal with. Meanwhile, someone who constantly hides or avoids their true feelings will likely come off as more stereotypically straightforward.

Not to show feelings? You mean not to feel the feelings. That kinda changes things here.

In your statement " indirect" and "taught not to show their feelings" have completely different contexts. A man not showing his feelings is just suppressing. It's not indirect at all. It's straightforward, they just remove the emotions from the scene to deal with later. A woman being "indirect" means not just coming out and saying what they want without obfuscating it behind a psychic paywall that must be deciphered.

That's exactly the reason I'm so straightforward. I was taught to never really show my emotion so I've gotten used to staying calm and collected and being able to explain myself straightforward instead of basically going into an anxiety attack and getting confused and frustrated and not able to explain myself
