+35 Cheap versions of luxuries should not exist. amirite?

by ReadyPlace 1 week ago

I think everyone should be able to treat themself no matter how rich or poor they are.

I do not, at least not with luxury products. That's why my opinion is unpopular. There are ways of treating yourself that don't require much money or consumerism.

Right, they're called cheap luxuries

"Poor people shouldn't have things" is definitely an unpopular opinion…

Popular among elitists, though they usually only say it behind closed doors.

I prefer to call it, "Better to have 1 nice thing, then all the things, but cheap quality."

I think technology is moving a lot faster now and you can invest in a luxury item that will be out of date in less time than before. Then factoring how much stuff is built with planned obsolescence you are kind of forced to upgrade a lot quicker. And there is more stuff with software also built in making it difficult to repair things. For example, my car went out a couple weeks ago and my mechanic couldn't fix it because it involved the electrical system and those parts aren't sold to the general public so we had to take it to the dealership. Because we are connected in a way that we never were before fashion and trends can change on a weekly basis. It's just a different world now. I can't imagine how much more is going to change.

So many words to say so little

The amount of trying to gatekeep here is wild. This isnt just unpopular. Its dumb.

How dare lower-income consumers think they deserve to have refrigerators! Why, back in the day, they simply EXPECTED to get salmonella or dysentery! There are too many peasants around trying to make their lives bearable when the world would be better off without them. Of course, then there wouldn't be anyone to make the luxury goods, but perhaps we could train chimpanzees or Democrats or something. /s
