Home-schoolers are all doomed when they go to college, amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I was homeschooled K-12, went to community college and graduated with my AA and a GPA of 3.97, now I'm double majoring in Psych and Painting/Drawing and minoring in Art History at the University of Washington and my GPA is 3.6.
So no, I don't think being homeschooled doomed me for college. I think it helped me.

You kind of rock, did you know?

Homeschoolers: Don't you love people who make these assumptions, and completely ignore the fact that Albert Einstein got really bad grades?
by Anonymous13 years ago
albert einstein never actually failed any of his math classes, that's a myth.
the guy who originally said that never cited his sources, and einstein himself said it wasn't true.
by Anonymous13 years ago
So... he only didn't fail math? What about the other ones? And dude, then... where's YOUR source?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I think the OP meant socially not academically.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yeah, academically they should be at least the same, but socially... yeah...
by Anonymous13 years ago
Socially you're all fucked. Haha learn to read in context, it was obvious this post had nothing to do with academics.

Just because we were (are) homeschooled doesn't mean we're screwed when we go to college. Yes there are some anti-social homeschoolers but there are also anti-social kids who go to "normal" school too. The stereotype that homeschoolers are anti-social is one of the stupidest statements ever. Way more than half the homeschoolers you'll meet will be completely normal.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Antisocialism often has more to do with religion based homeschooling, because in most cases they're parents teach them that most everything in society is wrong.
by Anonymous13 years ago
We're not doomed socially!! All the home schoolers I know have some of the best lives. They have the friends who are actually loyal and honest and get way better grades than those who weren't homeschooled!
Speaking from experience, also.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Obviously you're speaking from experience. I go to school and my friends are "actually loyal and honest" as well. As the stereotype goes, and how it's often proved, most homeschooled students hang out with a certain crowd. Usually, that's a "better behaved" crowd. There's nothing wrong with that, but once they get into college, they'll have freedom that they've never experienced, and will be surrounded by things, parties and all that happens there, and some will find that appealing, and party it up.

These homeschooler posts are so wrong. Every homeschooler is not some socially-retarded nerdy freak whose only friend is their mom. I'm homeschooled and know literally 70+ other homeschoolers who are actually cool people.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Yeah I was homeschooled and I'm in college now and I'm doing just fine. There are a few overly-sheltered homeschoolers out there, but mostly we're normal people. Most people can't even tell I was homeschooled.

my cousin just started college, and he is socially screwed. however, it's just his personality. He hates socializing with people, but he always had and would've been screwed in public school.
