If food was free there would be no farmers.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

because that tottally makes sense.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It does... Why would I become a farmer if I didn't make any money? How could I even afford my farm?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

education is free, that doesnt mean teachers dont make money. the government pays them, as im assuming they would from this post, but im not sure.

A lot of farmers don't farm for money, they farm so they can survive. So, yes, commercial farming wouldn't happen, but people still would farm.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How would we get the food if commercial farming didn't happen?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You would need to farm yourself, or work out something with a substance farmer.

You've apparently never taken an economics class.

In a perfect world...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Perfect! You can be the one to get the free food, water, and medicine for us!

Medicine isn't always a necessity. At least not man made medicine.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Man-made medicine is a necessity for an effective health care system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WHO_Model_List_of_Essential_Medicines

by Anonymous 12 years ago

All those (except manmade medicine) are already free. Go live in the jungle and live off the land.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There's this thing called socialism...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

isn't all of that free already mostly because of Welfare? Somehow people live off food stamps, but still pull out wads of cash for beer and cigarettes

by Anonymous 12 years ago

everything costs money

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Great! Screw the democratic system only because people choose not to work. Jk, move to russia.

In reality, food and water are free. We could all start a farm and build a well. What we pay for is the convenience of having someone else provide us with these essentials. Rather than having everyone be a sustenance farmer, we "trade" for food and water and have extra money left over for luxuries. So basically, we don't pay for the food and water, we pay for the labor.
