+282 Parents say "they know best" but how is that true when no one knows what is actually best for another person? People need to make their own decisions, make the mistakes, learn, and grow up from it. amirite?

But they probably went through some sort of problem such as your own. It wouldn't hurt to get the advice.

I doubt babies and toddlers know what's in their own best intrest, but I see your point.

I see your point, but parents deal with the consequences of their children's actions. For instance, if a kid gets caught stealing the parent takes time from work to go to court and probably pays the fine. The parent has to make sure the kid does what they're supposed to because the actions a kid does reflects good/bad on the parent.

The people that came up with the whole "no one knows what's best for me" have the same mindset as serial killers. My point is; there is some right and wrong, it's not as subjective as people would like to think.

I think it is very important to at least have direction from others. You cant have no rules or morals whatsoever and expect to come out some great person by learning everything on you're own. You may not see what is the best thing for you at certain times and others might.

I guess their guidance is there to keep children from experiencing the cruelties of life. Whether they choose their own path or go by theirs is their own decision. Most usually regret it and wish they would have listened.
