A need is something you cannot survive without, is it not?

A need is either essential or very important. I would say needing to call the police or an employer as soon as something happens is essential.

Things only become convenient when they fill a need. This helped with the needs of people, which is why it's convenient.

Would you like me to draw a tree on the very edge of a very high cliff with a drop off and have the apple fall down that drop off?

That apple didn't fall far. It fell directly below the tree, then because of other forces it was moved to another area.

The cell phone was invented because there was a known and relevant need for it, those needs being the ones I stated.

There's no reason for anyone to have a cellphone

Yeah because I never have the need of calling anybody when I'm not at home. My car broke down on the free way? Good thing I don't have a cell phone. Get in a car accident on my way to work? They wouldn't want me to call anyway. No change to use a payphone? Guess it's not important.

They don't need cell phones the way we imagine them. Like iPhones, GAlaxy, Xperia. They should still have phones like a Nokia 3310. Not many games, but just a phone and nothing (or little) more.

Do you seriously think having a phone in that situation is as useless as not having one?

I think if he were about to kidnap you then he wouldn't let you make a call. The police might roll by if you felt you were being followed but until he actually attempted something they wont pick him up. Yes, seeing a cop roll by might make him stop what he might do, but if it's to the point where it's happening pulling a phone out could get you killed.

Exactly. 7 years after the near kidnapping, my mom still says she wishes I had a phone that day. (I'd almost gotten kidnapped, and the only reason I didn't is because there was two ladies who saw the guy following me pulled up right behind him then followed him to Burger King after they'd watched him follow me for 15 minutes demanding me to get into his car) If it wasn't for them, I'd probably be dead, because he had a gun. And I lived in the rich **** nice part of town, the Catalina Foothills, no crime ever happened, and it happened to me, to this day my mom still says she wishes I had a phone then in case those women weren't there to save me.

I don't think kids need iphones and shit, a phone that only calls 911 and certain programmed numbers will do just fine, but if a kid does have a really expensive phone, oh well.

I see what you're saying but do you honestly think that guy would have let you pull out a phone and call the police?

Then they put out an update for that phones software. Phones themselves, and most technology really, are made to fail after a certain amount of time so that people HAVE to keep buying new ones.

Not only would that cost hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars, but it would come out of hard working peoples paycheck. Then they still have to pay to run the damn thing which means a permanent raise in everyones taxes since no one state could be solely responsible for it's costs. Thirdly, where I am at least, we already have a train system. It does help, but there is still plenty of traffic and it takes about an hour and a half for a normally 20 minute drive because it has to stop so much to pick people up. Who's going to sit on a train for two weeks when they could hop on a plane and be on it for 2-4 hours? I see what you were trying to do, it's just not really feasible in any way.

Companies tell you that you "save" money because their stuff isn't as expensive. No, you're spending less. Not saving it. To save it would be to put it away and keep it until it amounts to more. You don't save 100 per trip, you spend x, being however much your trips costs.
