In the movie he tells two different stories, that totally contradict each other, about his scars and then at the end of The Dark Knight when he's fighting with Batman he's all like "Speaking of which, wanna know how I got these scars?" and Batman is all like "No, But I know how you got these! WHABAAAA!" And hits him in the face with little razor blade thingies, and the Joker falls off the building but Batman saves him anyway and yeah. :)

Joker got his scars from diving into acid? And also how his whole body was dyed white. The acid just did something to his mouth that made it stretch.

The acid disfigured him. The white is paint. Duh.

The Joker fell into chemical waste that dyed his skin white, he NEVER needs to use paint. Don't believe in what you see in movies sometimes.

In The Dark Knight, they wanted to make Joker resemble a clown, not how he really is. In the movie he uses make-up, but really, The Joker never uses it because he doesn't need to.
