a spanking or a slap over the head isn't abuse. if you beat them with a belt and leave marks,then it's abuse

Hitting a kid over the head qualifies as abuse.

Spanking with a belt is okay, but slapping someone (hard) just out of anger is NEVER okay.

Well, that isn't false. Many countries (not only in Asia) have child abuse.

I live in China, and it is extremely uncommon for parents to NOT abuse their children here. Child abuse is COMPLETELY normal here, so no, I don't think it's weird that people think that. Corporal punishment is even more common in Singapore, and parents are even seen as bad parents if they don't discipline their children enough.
