Some people get notifications on their phones... therefore they would get the message and go online.

No because some people use the "go offline" feature and then one of their friends notices that they JUST did something on Facebook (like how it says something happened "2 seconds ago") and they need to talk to them so they write on their wall to tell them to get online.
