+367 Why is the movie called "The Karate Kid" when the kid actually practices Chinese Kung Fu martial arts, not Japanese Karate martial arts, amirite?

They almost changed the name to "The Kung Fu Kid" though, seriously.

They called it that because they wanted to identify it with the original karate kid, because it was a modern repeat of the message the original had. Changing the title would turn it from a tribute/remake into just a knockoff.

Most people I know refer to just about any martial art as karate. It's annoying.

i kinda gave up hope in that movie. you cant make another karate kid without mr.miyagi! ...you just cant.
