+336 When you were little and you were crying, your mom told you to stop crying and you thought it was impossible, amirite?

For me it's almost impossible, I have to get it all out or I'll just start crying again later.

My mom always hugged me and said it would be okay. She never told me to stop crying.

no, i had a good mom, not some 20 year old bitch who didn't know how to take care of a kid

My mom was 29 when she had me, and she didn't always run to me when I cried so I didn't turn out to be a needy attention seeking brat like my nephew.

Sounds like a terrible mother to me! And for the record, i'm about as introverted as possible, so don't try to play the "attention seeking brat" card.

Yes, apparently we all have terrible mothers for doing that... I said "like my nephew" not like you, sorry if it seemed like I was calling you an attention seeking brat personally. I think it would be bad parenting if they told you to quit crying everytime you cried, but I also think it's bad to respond every time they cry. That's what my nephew gets, so he'll cry over when he has to take his shoes off or put them on or hold your hand when you cross the road. And they're not real crys, he doesn't have any tears. He just screws his face up and wails because he usually gets what he wants/gets attention when he crys, depending on what he's crying over. I read something a while back about how it's good to respond to about 80% of their crying. I'd send you a link but I don't remember what site I even saw it on.

So true, just her telling me to stop crying would make me cry more, which would make my mom angrier causing her to yell stop crying causing me to cry even more...it was just a vicious cycle! :-S

The only time I can remember my mom telling me that (when I wasn't being just some ridiculous little brat/drama queen) was when I dislocated my jaw. She told me to go back to bed and quit crying. I know now that she had know idea I was hurt but it still makes me sad.
