I haven't heard many of these covers, but this comes off as bitter. It's not if by simply doing a cover of a song, the original will somehow degrade in quality. You're like those people who complain about movie remakes. The original is not going to disappear off the face of the planet. Life moves on.

I didn't say anything about the original degrading in quality. Hell it's pretty obvious that the originals look even better. If the original post up there comes off as bitter, that's because it is. Anybody can watch/like anything they want, it's there opinion. It just so happens I have an extreme dislike for the covers, and I put it an amirite post. The site was made for posting opinions and that is what I did. It's not like I though this post was going to change anything about what I was talking about.

I did like the covers better than the originals, but I'm not going to discredit the original artists. I know that they were amazing in writing the songs themselves. I just like listening to the covers more.

I'm pretty sure the writers of Glee did not intend or even think that their songs would be better than the originals. Defying Gravity didn't even come close to Idina Menzel in the original WICKED, but the rendition was good. The actors are talented and people bitching about how they "ruined the song" doesn't change that. I love Glee, and I don't think the actors singing the songs ruins them. It actuallly exposes a younger audience to some older classics.

I didn't say Glee intended to do better. All I said was that the covers were not better than the original. I never said they ruined the song, I just didn't like the cover. I still love the song. I like both the originals and the covers. It's just nice to hear talented people sing good music. It doesn't matter who sang it first. At least a lot of the singers on glee have proven the quality of their voices on places like Broadway rather than being a bunch of annoying semi-talented teenagers *cough* high school musical *cough*

I didn't say they didn't have musical talent. There voices are great. Yes I dislike the covers, but I never said they didn't have good voices, or that their covers weren't popular. I don't care who sang it first, hell there are alot of covers I like better than the original (Alien ant farm's cover of smooth criminal for example). All I said in the post was that the cover's on glee were NOT better than the original. Simple as that.

I think that what glee is doing by reworking the song, opens up the younger generation to classic songs, I bet that after someone here's a classic sung by glee they will probably go and listen to the original, therefore expanding their music horizons! And also, Glee is amazing! <3

Apparently people can't read, so let me clear things up for the 5 year olds. I didn't say they didn't have good voices, I didn't say it was a bad show, I didn't say the cover made the original bad, I didn't say the original artist didn't like the covers, and I didn't say the ruined the songs for me. Now, I have seen the covers, and I'm not a big fan of them, but that's beside the point, and has nothing to do with the post. They aren't trying to outdo the originals, a lot of the time when they do a song on glee, the original gets more attention (more people buy it on itunes, listen on youtube, etc) so in a way they are respecting the song by giving it more fans
