I have a friend who's sister is in Special ed. When someone called someone else a retard when she was around she just said "Is there anything wrong with retards?" in a calm manner.

It's not the nicest word in the world, but I have used it. I think it's a better word than "gay" to describe something stupid, since to be mentally retarded, you have to have an IQ of below 70, meaning you aren't going to be as smart as someone who is not mentally retarded (sounds mean, but it's true). Therefore, you could make the connection between "retarded" and "stupid." However, with gay, it's connecting being happy/being in love with someone who is the same sex as you with stupid, and those have no correlation at all. Love and happiness aren't stupid, and you don't have to have a certain IQ to be gay (using the definition of homosexual or happy) like you do to be retarded. *end long rant that only partially has to do with post*
