I have a Bachelor degree in management; thank you. I apologize for saying "Obama" when I should have said the Obama administration. How's that? They want those of us who work hard, pay our bills, pay for our insurance, etc. to pay more taxes to cover those who don't have "enough." And while they're at it, they'll take a little more from us to give to the illegal aliens too. BTW, I don't see where your comment included any facts to dispute my post, and advising me that I'm the kind of person that pisses you off doesn't exactly want me to read your opinion anyway.
The Obama Administration is still only the Executive branch. You are forgetting the Legislative and the Judicial branches.
The various "socialist" programs that the US has are a complicated issue, not well suited to this venue.
Though the Obama administration and its ideas about social welfare and reform, remind me of the Roosevelt administration and its 'New Deal' which was created to help the nation recover during the Great Depression, and it actually worked. In 1937 when the Conservative Coalition (where the Republican party gained the aid of conservative southern Democrats) began to combat FDRs initiatives that the country the country actually entered a new depression for a time. Since then the Republican party has succeeded in having more and more stripped from the New Deal.
The US might actually be a lot better off had many of the New Deal initiatives not been removed by the efforts of the Republican Party.
parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over.”
Her wise father asked his daughter, “Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.”
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, “That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!”
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, “Welcome to the Republican Party.”
there's a difference between slacking off in college and being born into poverty. And there's a difference between working hard in college, and going to Yale on a legacy, like George W. Bush did.
Exactly. Grades are usually earned, but people don't all start out with the same amount of money.
Wow, that is like completely opposite!!!
That's not how Obama is running the country. For one thing, he isn't "running the country" because he only holds a fraction of the power, idk if you've been through middle school, but there are two other branches of government. It's people like you who piss me off more then anyone else. I respect your opinion, but do some reaserch to back it up and use facts to make your point instead of posting your dumbass thoughts where others can see them.
Or maybe the one that made an F was just out with friends and didn't put in the effort to pass because he knew that someone else would support him.
I know that there are people in this country that honestly need help, and I'm all for social assistance when it's necessary, but too many people play the system and manage to fool people like you (caring yet gullible) into carrying them.
(hodgepodge) its people like YOU that piss me off. So where is this so called change? The only thing I'm seeing is Obama doing what he and his party want despite what the American people say. But hey its ok, just sit back and light up another smoke Mr. President, your making millions, WE THE PEOPLE are the ones who feel the shock not you.
(missing bush): To me it looks like he's trying to do what he said he would do in his campaign. Anyway, with the grade analogy, the Republicans are trying to let the kids who came to kindergarten already knowing how to read get even more extra credit, when they clearly don't need it. I don't think they should HAVE to give their money to poor people, but they shouldn't get more tax cuts that they don't need.
@really. in case you havent noticed the website is opinions. not everyone is going to agree. its not to piss people off. its to state their point of view. if you want only your political opinions posted somewhere you're in the wrong place. i agree with doing something about it but how do you know the OP isn't doing anything?
Sorry, bro, but that's called Communism.
The politically correct term is 'Socialism'.
Why should I pay my hard-earned money to pay for a fat smoker's hospital bill? Or someone who chose to commit suicide and is in critical condition? Or people who make carless, reckless decisions? Obama's healthcare system sucks.
...What about the people who get cancer and have their coverage dropped for no viable reason? The homeless kids that were born on the streets and have no chance of paying for insurance? They're the ones the healthcare is meant for.
everyone in this country has or had an opporutuinity for a education up to highschool. mostof the people on the streets who "need help" stopped in middle school and starte ddoing drugs. dont say its not there fault cause it is. they could have a someone decent job if the finished school. there all lazy asses and obama just wants everyone to feel bad for them. its there fault. they arent up trying to find a decent job to make some money, they are laying on the side of the street for people to feel bad. get of ther ass andtry your hardest then ill feel bad for you.
Why do people continue to make posts about politics when all it does is piss people off and get people fired up for no reason? If you are that passionate about this subject, then do something about it, rather than complaining about it on here. It's not like you're going anywhere with this
(Really.): So now you want to censor amirite posts? I wouldn't expect anything less from an Obama supporter.
(Really.): I think the OP is trying to get people pissed off ;) they already knew people would be pissed
(I Predict a Riot): I am the OP, and I didn't intend to piss a bunch of people off. I simply posted my opinion and asked "amirite." According to the vote, most people think that I am. For those who disagree, why does my opinion matter to you?
This is one of those posts where there are a lot of really long comments, amirite?
That's what my dad told me when he was trying to explain how democrats work.
And my dad always tells me that Republicans don't want to help people who actually need help. I still try to keep an open mind about Republicans and think for myself, though.
At least country didn't spend a billions dollars on security
Typical republicans. Making an 'analogy' about why the country is messed up without providing any actual information. When Bill Clinton was president, the economy did incredible. Biggest surplus in years. George Bush inherited that surplus and turned it into a recession. Obama wasn't even involved in that scenario, and STILL people blame him.
Stop whining and if you're so concerned, suggest a solution.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, “How is you friend Audrey doing?” She replied, “Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the...
You already do. Your tax money ALREADY pays for hospitals. The health care bill would just make it pay for preventative care, which would cut down on the amount of money you pay in taxes for emergency care.
If less tax money will have to be paid out for emergency care, why do we have to pay more taxes to pay for the health care bill? Oh, yeah. We have to make up for all of the small businesses that go under because they can't afford to give their employees what the government will dictate they give.
I have listened to all of the arguments for and against, and I personally am against. Once it is all said and done, I hope to be proven wrong, because the alternative will be really bad.
Your father is a very wise man. ;)
Basically everyone who's posted something here should run for president based on your veiw weither democratic republican and see how you do and if you win you can show us all how it's done
It's not fair at all to have to share your grade/points with someone else. If the teacher gave you $10 for each letter grade, and you make an A for $40, are you willingly going to give the F student any of your hard-earned cash just because he's in the class?
Isn't that essentially how a learning curve works?
No, everyone gets credit with a learning curve.
But, if you are at the top of the class, aren't you brought down slightly, and the people at the bottom are brought up?
No, the highest grade is curved upwards to a 100, and however many points were added to get it there is also added to everyone else's grade. :)
Oh, okay then.
If an F will lead the other kid to an early death, and a C will save you both, than yes its okay
Without reading all of the comments above, so I apologize if I'm repeating, the problem I have with the grade analogy is that the majority of the students who get F's have it because they don't care or try. But there's a lot of lower class Americans who work hard and excel at their jobs but still can't make enough money to save. It's not exactly their fault they're in trouble.
Probably more like making an A and an F into a B+ and a C-
that doesn't make a difference.. the kid who got the A deserves the A because he worked harder than the kid who got the F. This is a really good analogy. Just because one person has more money than another one doesn't mean that they don't deserve it. Everyone in America has the opportunity to get an education, and the people who work hard to get one and then get a good, well-paying job because of it DESERVE all the money they make. The lazy, greedy people who sit at home watching TV and collecting government money need to get off their butts and get a job. Now, the people who HAVE jobs and work hard at it, but still can't get by, like single parents working multiple jobs, etc. They should absolutely receive some help, because they are working hard. It's the people who don't even try that piss me off. Stop leeching off of other people and earn your own.
Wasn't condoning it or anything. Let's call me the straight A student in this analogy, I get annoyed too when the teacher gives the dumb kids extra credit at the end of the semester.
Maybe if those A students took some initiative and tutored once in a while, there wouldn't be so many F students
Ok, now that's just taking it too far. If a kid studies hard to get an A he shouldn't then have to go tutor the kids that didn't.
or the kids that get the Fs can go study themselves instead of begging off other people
How do you know those kids don't study? You can't just assume those people are lazy. Some people work hard and still don't do well, they just need some extra help. That's why they have stuff like afterschool tutoring and remedial classes
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth. She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
Public healthcare is payed by everyone and is FOR everyone, including you. So when you pay your taxes, so are other people so all the money youre paying will come back to you because you will probably need the healthcare in the future. So let's say after a couple years, you payed 40 thousand in taxes, but then you find out you have cancer, the 40k you payed PLUS the money everyone else payed will cover your bill of probably 100k or more. So you're not only cutting everyone elses bill, you're cutting your own.
It's more fair when it's really more like there are 3 A-students, 20 C-students, and 2 F-students.
Except that's not the same at all... Besides people on this post are just starting to make rediculous off topic comments just to criticize Obama. all of you can Screw off he's president get used to it.
I'd just like to point out that this is the way the country has been run for about 100. Do you have any clue when the income tax was passed? 1861 during the Civil War. Then it became the 16th amendment to our constitution in 1913.
Before that, in 1798 it was done in Great Britain to pay for the Napoleonic wars. WAY before that, in year 10 (ten) it was done in China (though for not very long).
I don't mind (too much) paying taxes to support programs that benefit America as a whole. I have a problem with paying more taxes to support programs that are designed to help others not have to work.
I was absolutely shocked when I learned that the Cash for Clunkers program was based on your income. A friend of my husband went to a car lot expecting to take advantage of the opportunity only to be advised that he - not his vehicle - didn't qualify. What??? He made too much money. He had been driving the same old truck for years and years so that he could use his money to pay for more important necessities, such as insurance!
So was Cash for Clunkers really designed to get gas-guzzling, un-green vehicles off the road? If so, it wouldn't matter what tax bracket the drivers are in.
its called socialism. Its works in canada, universal healthcare is not evil it's great. Whats better? half the class failing with F's and the other half of the classes passing with A's or the whole class passing with a decent mark. yes there are some people who probably don't deserve to receive government assistance but you can't generalize thats what creates ignorance
I don't care what it's called. If that system prevents me from going to the college I want because someone in my class failed, then that's crazy. It's my A, I worked for it. I hate it when slackers mooch of others hard work.
socialism is horrible, and so is socialized health care. if everybody realizes that there's no point in working for the A because they are gonna get a C anyways, then nobody gets A's anymore..
Exactly! I'm not even convinced that Obama is pushing for socialism. I'm beginning to think that he wants to turn the US into a monarchy so he can be king.
i'm not sure about that, but his agenda is scary....
Canada is actually just a "pseudo-socialist" system. The health care system over here sucks crap by the way. That's besides the point.
We're more of an "all things in moderation" type government. Canada has achieved the middle-ground between free market capitalism and far reaching government communism. The problem is that the U.S. screams "COMMIE DICTATURR" at the socially responsible system we have in Canada.
Why do I deserve the A more than the other kid? Maybe the only reason they don't have an A is because they actually have to work for their own money. Maybe they have to support their family because their parents aren't able. Maybe they don't have parents. Maybe they, or someone in their family, has gotten an illness that requires huge amounts of money to be payed, and they just don't have as much time to do schoolwork as I do because they have other issues to deal with.
And anyway, isn't it good enough to know that someone could get a C and didn't have to fail all because of me? Isn't it good enough to know that I'm helping this other person who is unwilling or unable to do what is neccessary to get grades like mine pass?
i don't know much about politics. but i'm here to say, i do agree with you, but only a small fraction of students have one of those reasons to be failing. most of the time, it is because they don't do the work, or they don't care. it wouldn't be fair to help a lazy student pass because he didn't feel like it.
I don't approve of socialism because it doesn't work, but I have yet to see how Obama is leading us towards full-blown socialism. People critize the health care plan as socialism, but aren't public schools, police and fire departments also social systems run by the government for the people that are run by taxpayer money? A legitimate arguement is that it would be expensive, and that is a true critism, but I think too many people's opinions are based more off fear-mongering. That's just my opinion.
