+351 Opera singers must cultivate their voice starting when they are very young. The practice relentlessly and must grasp skills that normal people can't begin to comprehend. They do this tireless work for little gratification. Yet rappers just have to *kind of* have a sense of rhythm (which everyone does) and act gansta, and they get instant fame, amirite?

They also have to 'kill someone', do drugs, and have a bad rep in general. Gosh they have it hard.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

If this is true then why isn't everyone who acts gangsta famous? Just because you don't agree with the way they make their music, doesn't mean they're not talented people.

but their not talented

I don't know why people dislike rap/hip-hop so much. I mean if it's not their taste get over it, some people like it and just because you don't doesn't mean they get to act all pretentious and say it's not "music". I don't like country but you don't see me bitching all day about it.

Your stupid, not ALL rappers act "gangsta." This is like a rap fan saying that all you have to do to be a rockstar is be able to complain and scream about death and depression. And all you have to do to be an opera singer is be overweight and yell. Such an idiotic post. There's so much more to it than the garbage you stated.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

those two examples made me laugh, especially the rock star one LOL DEATH, DEARTH, DEATH, AND DEPRESSION!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You know, I'd be more inclined to take this seriously if not for the 'Your stupid,' which made me laugh. "You're stupid." -cough-

Yet another post that demonstrates a complete ignorance of anything related to hip-hop or rap. Well done. Opera just isn't that popular. Heavens knows why, I find Ave Maria so relatable...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

personally, it's because it's not energetic enough. in the rap I sometimes listen to, it's fast paced and emotional.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Thank you! I'm a classically trained opera singer, I've been training since I was five.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No. That is not a true statement. A good rapper would go through just as much training and work just as hard as an Opera singer. But an opera singer doesnt get so famous, because its 2011, and NOBODY LISTENS TO OPERA.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

if you honestly think that most rappers do even half of the preparation that an opera singer undergoes there must be something seriously wrong with you. it is well documented that opera singing is a discipline that take many years to perfect. a fully trained opera singer is far more educated in their field than any other variety of singer.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Have you ever been a famous rapper? Or any other kind of famous variety of singer?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

anybody who uses the word "gangsta" clearly does not understand rap... I am a fan of rap, and the best rappers are very talented in that they are smart, observant of society, and can relate their emotions in a poetic nature. Although Opera is nice too, especially the Ave Maria song.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

i actually like both, but i have to agree opera should get more credit! i love Sarah Brightman. Her voice in Repo when she sang made me have great respect for opera.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm not saying that I 100% agree with this post, but I see where the OP's coming from. And to you people saying that opera singers aren't famous are missing the point! There are SO MANY talented singers who aren't famous. By saying that rap is better because it's well-liked and more popular, you're just as ignorant as the OP.

Not another one of these posts... Firstly, you don't have to act "gangsta" and whatnot. That would be like saying rockstars have to do heroine and rage about satan and the like. Secondly, all the good rappers didn't start off wealthy and rich. The majority were hustlers and thugs due to poverty and living in a shitty area. Take Snoop Dogg who's been a crack runner since 16. 9/10 opera singers are most probably going to be wealthy since they undergo a "lifetime of training ansd preparation". Finally, rapping is an art. Forget Lil Wayne, he's a fake studio gangster who grew up in Birdman's mansion. Most of them rap about their life and how hard it was, but who cares about the occasional song about bitches and alcohol? Blink 182 made a song about fucking a dog in the ass and yet they're still considered rock instead of animal rapists. Sheesh.
