+309 Dear bicyclists: I don't care what you think, you're not as fast as my car; DON'T drive in the middle of the lanes like you are! Amirite?

Bikes are legally given a whole lane of traffic to ride in and it's actually illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk

I think you're talking about MOTORcyclists. I'm talking about BIcyclists. People riding bicycles. They are allowed to ride in a bicycle lane or on the far right of a lane. But they cannot ride in the middle of a lane on any street as if they were a car. And even if they could, it is still rude.

I live in an area where bike paths are... very rare. If there there is one, its in poorer condition than the actual road. Now go ahead and tell me to ride my $6000 bike on that. But seriously, they have every single right to ride on the road and IF they are in an accident, theyre not at fault. Besides, cycling is healthier anyways. Get out of your car.

This is a joke. And I have a woman's Trek alpha and I love riding around. Granted, mine isn't a 6000 dollar bike, but an 800... but still. Anyway, when I ride, I still try to stay to the right and let cars pass me because I'm aware that they are faster than me, bigger than me, and I don't want to be like the annoying jerks on the road that I often see who absolutely will not let me pass them. It's just a courtesy that all bicyclists should have.

Well, people who take cycling seriously SHOULD know the rules. I certainly do. I bothered to go out of my way and learn them. Mines only 6000 because of full carbon fibre road bike. But, personal preference.

BICYCLES are given a whole lane of traffic and can ride down the middle of a lane. Look it up

*Don't ride like you DO. Or, at the very least, *Don't ride like you ARE RIDING.

You're a poet and didn't even... realize it!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't realize that! Hahha.

so they should ride on the side of a lane and then get knocked down by an inconsiderate driver?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly. :P

They should change the laws. Even though cycling on the sidewalk is technically illegal, I have not once seen anyone get a citation for doing it. This is why when I ride my bike, I ride on a sidewalk or bike path if one is available. If I'm on the road, I yield to all traffic and even get completely off the road in some cases.
