Superman does actually fight Batman in at least one story arc. It's because Batman doesn't always follow the rules and he gets on the bad side of those in authority, so Superman has to take him out. Batman ends up tricking Superman into thinking that he was defeated (cuz the bats got the brains and supe has the brawn). Anyways, no one really wins in that.
