Off the top of my head I can't think of any series in any other sport that's as good as this. Let me just remind you: we were down 3-0 in the series. The Yankees were 3 outs away in Game 7 of moving on the World Series. Mariano Rivera, the best closer in baseball (and that's hard for me to say as a Sox fan) is pitching. And we beat him. And won the next 3 games.
The rest is history.

What about the Indy Patriots game in 2006. That was one of the greatest games ever, also what about the Colts and Jets game in super bowl 3, that was a match to remember.

Both great games. But you have to understand the magnitude of this series. Sox-Yankees have THE biggest rivalry in sports. Better than Celts-Lakers, better than Pats-Colts better than any other rivalry. More history, more bad blood, more heartache.
We were down 3 games to NONE in a 7 game series. The yankees needed to win ONE game. And they lost 4 straight to a team that hadn't won a WS in 86 years.
Then again, amirite is just an opinion site, and this is my opinion.

I never said your opinion was wrong, I was just stating my opinion too, so before you get all "technicality on me" you just admitted that my idea could be right since its my opinion. Sox-Yankees rivalry is better than Pats-Colts but not better than Celts and lakers. IMO.

Actually, the biggest rivalry in sports is Brasil and Argentina...

no it's yankees red sox

And also F.C Barcelona vs Real Madrid, and if you follow Brasilian football, Flamengo vs Fluminese. These are all HUGE games.

I'll be the first to admit I know almost nothing about the rivalries between Barca and Real, nor have I heard of those other two clubs you mentioned, but my post was saying the greatest COMEBACK in sports.
I'm sure these are all great games, but I stand by my original post, this was the greatest comeback EVER.

I'm not saying anything about the post. Your comment, "Sox-Yankees have THE biggest rivalry in sports" is what I'm talking about.
by Anonymous13 years ago
Touche. I'll retract that statement and replace it with: Within the 4 major sports in America, (Basketball, football, baseball, hockey) Sox-Yankees is easily top 3 in terms of rivalry, and in my opinion is actually Number 1.

Thanks ;)
THAT I can agree with.

i love the sox!!!! iwatched that whole series in 04 when i was 7 years old! sox down 3-0 in the series... game 4 they're down to their last 3 outs. millar draws a walk...pinch runner dave roberts steals second base... bill mueller singles & roberts scores-tied game...12th inning ortiz walkoff homrun. game 5- ortiz walkoff single in the 14th... game 6- schilling bloody sock game...game 7-sox in a blowout with a grand slam from damon to finish the comeback. YEAH RED SOX!!!

In no relivance to the OP, since I can't think of a better comeback: to the people who are completely dissing the rivalry of soccer/futbol teams in favor of the baseball rivalries, obviously you don't realize how it's all of our sports combined and then some to other countries (minus Russia and Canada where hockey replaces soccer in this instance). I would say that some of their rivalries are bigger.
