This is because popular names change with the times so names like Ernest and shortening Robert to Bob were popular when the adults you speak of were born, whilst the other names like Zach and Sean have only found favour more recently.

My grandma's name is Irene c: Which, I could never imagine a kid having that name. And it's an "old person" name because, those were more common names back then. Nowadays it'd be weird D:|

Like Cody! How could you take a man seriously with that name? Also, Karen is a 30 year olds name, it sounds weird on 13 year olds..
