"Let's paint the town red." Why red? Why not purple or something? Red is so passé. amirite?
by Anonymous13 years ago
I'm pretty sure it's because red symbolises love

I could just as easily say purple symbolizes royalty and green symbolizes wealth. Use your spell-check.

Sure, but neither of those has anything to do with the sentence. Let's paint the town red, the colour red symbolizes love or lust, so it's basically saying let's be romantic. Plus I'm on my iPod, which means no spell-check.

@299793 (DryTurtle): It does have something to do with the sentence but who proved what colors symbolized? Instead of red, can't blue, orange, or pink mean love? Just like..red could mean good health?

Wait, what? So you're saying that we should change what colours symbolize, just so this sentence could be different?
by Anonymous13 years ago
No. I'm not saying that. I'm asking why red has to symbolize love. Instead of painting the town with "love" why not paint it green (to represent the earth, or nature. It's MY take on what green represents.) or rainbow colors? I'm all for the rainbow.

I don't know who decided which colours symbolized what, but changing the colour used in this sentence would change it's entire meaning. Which is probably the reason no one has done that.

Maybe..maybe.

I always thought it mean't blood! =s ...like lets be reckless! ..... Hmmm Why have I never questioned this assumption of mine?
