It's more when someone who hates the Jonas Brothers goes and watches all their videos on youtube and then adds loads of offensive comments for example. Or when someone who hated both Twilight and New Moon goes to see Eclipse and then complains about how bad it was. In those cases I don't see why the person bothers.

Or you want to experience for yourself how bad the thing is, so that when you complain to other people about it you can base your comments off your own experiences rather than what you've heard from other people.

That's why I read the whole Twilight series. The first one I read before it got popular, because I heard it was good. The next couple I didn't care about reading as much, so I only got around to it once the craze started. The only reason I actually finished the series was so I could have my own opinion on them, not just hate it or like it because of what everybody else thought.
